Haru is one of the only three dragons in the clan who were born into it, and chose to stay. Her mother, Kite, lives with the clan still, although her father, Forest, has moved on to a different clan. Both of her parents had a strong love of the woods, which Haru inherited; she walked its treacherous paths with ease from the time she was a hatchling. This may be why Tori chose to take her as an apprentice, although Haru did not ever complete her training to become a witch. Instead she took the title of beast-speaker, and learned to care for the familiars of the clan. She had a mate for some time, a spiral named Vetch, but he took ill in the autumn one year and went to serve the Windsinger in hopes he would find healing there.

Although sometimes considered wild and eccentric by many of the newer dragons of the clan, Haru is actually gentle and nurturing. She can often be seen near the nursery, tending the hatchlings with Rose and Ghost, or else gathering herbs and plants with Tori, her former teacher. Otherwise, she can be found wandering the perimeter of the clan, a small flock of familiars following close at her heels. Though she rarely strays far from the clan, she has been known to play diplomat in conflicts with nearby clans of longnecks.
