The world is as fragile as an egg in a glass dangling hundreds of feet above the ground by a thread. It is destined to fall and shatter one day, for sure, but that day will hopefully not be for a while. There is so much left to learn, left to see. So many places to go, places to be. So for now, let's hope the egg doesn't fall, shall we?
His story starts in a vacuum, a small, narrow slice of empty time and space. He is an embryo, a cluster of cells floating in a protein-filled mass, protected by only the thin walls of the growing universe--his egg, his incubator--from the cold emptiness beyond. At first, it is just him, drifting aimlessly, floating, growing. Then, a spark of light: bright as a thousand suns, but over in an instant. With it comes the first light, the first star--nothing more than a tiny blue speck among the blackness, but he goes towards it, drawn in by the gravity of this new opponent. As he draws close, the small star pulls him in the rest of the way, and he can do nothing but sit and watch as his little universe is sucked in to this light. As soon as the edge of his universe touches it, everything erupts into a thousand colors. Light and sound become meaningless as the world around him expands, folds, contracts, stretches, inverts itself over and over until he is stretched as thin as paper and twisted like the finest of rope. Then it all snaps together again like a breaking rubber band to form... him. He is all, and all is he, at this moment. Everything that does exist and will ever exist and once existed is inside of him--every memory, every dream, every war, every moment of peace, everything. This was once his destiny. To sit and observe, exist and protect, the entirety of dragonkind. But it is his purpose no longer. A thousand years ago--maybe more, he doesn't remember--the world he most favored fell into disarray. It was rife with colors and sounds, wars and love, everything he had ever invested and ever loved. But it was threatened, and he could not bear to sit by and watch it fall apart. So he created himself a vessel down on this planet, and sent a small fragment of himself into it so he could watch and change the world firsthand: this creature, this vessel, he calls Glass. |
