Biography
Iku
The Blacksmith |
Armorer for the Clan
{ Clan Magister of the Fire Flight } Steadfast/Weary/Sturdy He built the forges and smithy, and forces the fires to obey. Mate: Xian Needs: Metallic He had hurt someone close to him, Xian knew that much. But Iku had always kept the details from her, never allowing his old memories to resurface. The Nocturne could see the pain in his eyes, buried beneath years of regret. She only wanted to take some of that pain away. "Ikki.." she started tentatively, her thin voice echoing against the carved walls. "Ikki, ember of my life, you know I worry for you. Please, won't you open up to me? I think it would help to speak of it." Iku heaved a sigh that seemed to come from deep within his bones, settling wearily into the cool stone of his bedchamber. His answer surpised them both. "Very well." "In my youth, I was desperate to find my Charge. I searched fervently for years, nearly a decade, before I found him. My Charge was a Guardian like me, barely out of the shell, really - immature, selfish, and spoiled. He was an uptight brat with no appreciation for the stature that his high birth afforded him." "But I loved him, despite his shortcomings. Perhaps I thought I could change him, help him become a more mature and thoughtful dragon. After all, you can't help but love your Charge." Iku paused, rubbing the scales along his brow with a heavy claw. In his low murmur, he continued, "We were not meant to last." "The safety of my Charge's old lair had been compromised, and the entire Clan was uprooted. We were separated from the group one night, and we bickered, each of us blaming the other for our mistake." "I was short-tempered then, impatient with my young Charge, and I grew sick of the boy's whining." " 'Lie there and wait for someone else to save you, then!' I had roared, fangs bared and wings spread. 'See how you fare without me to look after you!' And with a great heave of my wings, I left him there." "They found the young dragon's body three days later. The blame was heavy in my heart, for I knew that as his Guardian, I should have been with him. He would have been safe with me, but I let my emotions cloud my judgement. It was my fault, all my fault." "So I left. I will never take another Charge, and I will never stop blaming himself for the death my actions caused... for the life he could have had. The life I could have given him." Xian nuzzled her entire body against his, hoping to offer some comfort. Her voice trembling with sadness for her mate, she asked, "What was his name? Your Charge?" The massive guardian met her gaze. "Iku. His name was Iku." |
