Stone Knife
There is a group of dragons, the stuff of legend, that is said to take contracts for almost any sort of dirty work one can imagine. Espionage, assassination, the Night Court does it all. They are based in no one territory, have no one motivation, and have no secret signal to know each other by. The only ones who know the identities of all the courtiers at any given time are the four Majesties. Thane is currently one of these Majesties – the King of Blades.

Thane was lucky enough to be inducted into the Court at a young age. One of the members of his birth clan was a courtier, and after seeing Thane sneak up on and kill an ember mouse when he was barely out of the egg, the courtier decided to take Thane under her wing. Thane grew up learning how to ply the skills of a rogue – the sneakiness, the silent wings and paws, and the blades. And oh, the blades. From the moment Thane got his claws around the hilt of a knife, he loved them – their sleek lines, the sound they made as they sliced through prey, the way they could be easily concealed.

After finishing training, he was formally inducted into the Court when he was barely an adult. Thane's first mission was simple espionage. He was to retrieve some papers from the study of a clan leader and bring them back to his contact. Thane absolutely loved it. The complete and utter freedom of being with the Court and able to do anything he liked appealed to him even stronger than his knives did, and he returned proudly with the papers and a few extra pieces of useful information he'd found. After the induction ceremony, he left his birth clan to be a full-time courtier.

Thane rose quickly through the Court's ranks. He has a knack for all types of missions, his blades and general sneakiness carrying him through most hard spots, and his willingness to get his blades dirty as well as the knowledge of when to keep them clean helped him rise. Only a few years after his first mission, Thane found himself running team operations, which is where he met Yagev. They were put on an mission together, Thane as the actual courtier and Yagev as the information source. Both of them took an instant liking to the other and, though friendships are usually discouraged between courtiers, decided to keep in touch through infrequent communications.

On one of his next missions after that first one with Yagev, Thane was nearly caught and had to go into hiding for almost a year. He chafed at the inactivity, but discovered he had a talent for organizing missions from the back lines as well as running them himself. Of course, it wasn't his favorite thing, but in a choice between that and being completely inactive, Thane obviously chose the organization.

And then, just as Thane began thinking it was safe for him to come out of hiding, news reached his ears from Yagev. The Majesties' Palace had been attacked. The King of Song and the Queen of Crows had been eliminated, which meant there were two Majesty spots up for grabs. Thane immediately set his eyes on this ultimate goal – leading the Court which he'd been a part of for so long.

Through some mad combination of luck, skill, and information from Yagev, they both succeeded. Thane counts the moment of his crowning as one of his finest. He cast away his old name and chose to keep his weapon as his title. “The King of Blades” he became, and as far as the Court is concerned, the King of Blades he has always been. Thane the Spiral never existed; only the Majesty, King of Blades, the dragon with the golden eyes and teasing voice who can joke with you one moment and slit your throat the next.
