Follow the cries... A spirit left behind, abandoned by his clan, his family. So angry that he knew nothing but destruction, that he would even kill to keep other dragons away. He didn't expect to be found by another spirit. He didn't expect to be taken in by a dragon that didn't fear him, no matter how much he fought. The Nocturne refused to fight back. The Pearlcatcher spirit stood by, was there to tell him that everything was okay. "How could you know what it feels like?" He finally demanded of her. "How do you know what I've been through here? To be left behind like this!" He didn't even realize he was crying until the small ghost floated up to his hulking, inelegant form. "It's all right," she said quietly, her tiny claws caressing his cheek. "Come home with me. With us." She smiled at the living Nocturne female, who, in turn, smiled, even though her skin was starting to bruise and bleed from where he'd hurt her. Their kindness only made him cry more. "I'm Elfi," the Pearlcatcher said in her tinkling, fairy bell voice. "What's your name?" "I..." He swallowed. "I don't know. I barely know what I looked like in life anymore." "Rib." Elfi decided, looking over her shoulder at the Nocturne. "We'll call you Rib." And he left behind the place of his death, the place of so much loss, and followed the little hatchling spirit, who seemed to be wise far beyond her years. |
