Anjou, a Wind dragon from the dusty and dry edge of the Plateau overlooking the Ashfall Waste, is a victim of circumstance. She joined the clan as a dancer under the command of Asteria, mate of Marynn, where she enjoyed performing alongside her beloved teacher and friend Fate. This peaceful routine changed quickly one day, when Asteria approached Marynn while he was conversing with Anjou and suddenly threw a bottled alchemy brew at her mate. Anjou, surprised and confused by her mentor's random, potentially harmful act, jumped in front of Marynn without a second thought and protected him from the attack. The brew soaked into her wings, and they became discolored in splotches as the liquid dried. Asteria merely stood in place, ready to explain herself, when Marynn just turned around and left her without a word. Anjou was equally speechless when Asteria told her that she was leaving; that there was no way he would take her back after her failed attempt at making him more beautiful. She asked the younger Skydancer to become Marynn's consort in her place and to continue dancing. With that, Asteria beat her wings and rose off the ground, leaving the clan for good. Anjou does not see herself as a fit replacement to her wise, graceful teacher. Where Asteria was outgoing, she is shy. Where Asteria was rigorously devoted and serious, Anjou is more laid-back and soft-spoken. Anjou enjoys the simple pleasures in life, not the high-strung lifestyle that Asteria surely lead. Even so, she was highly sensitive to Marynn's sorrow upon losing Asteria in such an odd manner -- Anjou was still confused and honestly a bit bitter herself -- and began staying by his side as a consort. He eventually gave her a little crown of her own to wear, saying that Asteria was never interested in wearing it, and Anjou now wears it proudly as part of her dancing ensemble. Each day is a new opportunity for Anjou to grow and become the dragon that Asteria knew she could be -- a professional dancer and a worthwhile consort to a dragon who may or may not be royalty, but deserves to be loved regardless. |
