Biography
Wergali
Wergali is quiet and comfortable spending long hours by herself or working silently alongside someone. She's shy in large groups and often comes off as solemn, but in smaller groups she easily warms up. She does not stand bullies, and will readily use her imposing size in the defense of others socially. She did a few years in contracted Shade defense with her spouses before they decided to settle down, and Wergali continues to be brutal and enthusiastic in a fight. She doesn't get out into battle very often anymore but she is still devoted to keeping the Shade possession of the world at bay. She tithes regularly.
She and Torstol have become friends through their mutual interest in ecology. Wergali's stewardship of the local plant life has often been supplemented with Torstol's understanding of the animals that live within it. Torstol visits Wergali's bees regularly, the two of them talking as Wergali tends to them. Torstol is not as able-bodied as Wergali, and Wergali often roams the woods and marshes in her stead, reporting back to Torstol if something seems amiss. On better days they go bird watching together. She and Cardamaim get along, although she knows her mostly through Slaughtercress and keeps a similarly professional stance on their friendship. Marrentil has come to Wergali for advice more than once, nervous and quiet in a way Wergali finds comparable to her own youth. She's fond of the young coatl and encourages the best in her. Ranarr spends most of her time in portions of the lair too small for Wergali's build, but when she does emerge they share a comfortable companionship.

Wergali was raised in a guardian lair in the Shifting Expanse. When she came of age she left her original clan and went on the Search for her charge, just as her adoptive siblings did. She spent a few years touring through the Ashfall Waste and the Windswept Plateau before returning to her home region out of frustration and perhaps a little homesickness. Searching is a more socially taxing activity than she had anticipated, especially as a ridgeback who was not entirely sure what she was looking for. She met Avantoe while working at a small library near the Lightning Farms, and eventually met Slaughtercress through him. They were friendly and fun and listened to what she had to say, and Wergali ended up falling in love with them. They haven't parted ways since. She feels more comfortable with guardian customs than she does with ridgeback ones. Slaughtercress has answered any questions she's asked and she's read many books, but doing things as ridgebacks do is still not her first approach to life. She thinks like a guardian and she's content with that. She tends a group of large beehives she's set up a comfortable distance from the lair. While she knows her feeling of Searching is not quite the same as a natural guardian's, she considers these hives to be her charge. She cares for them as such, and she loves her bees deeply. She's learned everything she can about apiculture and keeps an eye on the native plant life as well, since a bee colony's ecosystem extends far beyond its hive. She collects and sells honey in season. The same couple centaur buyers often seek her honey out annually and she enjoys the hobbyist relationship she has with them. |
