Pride lives up to his name by having an ego the size of a mountain. Still, he has worked for it and the clan has flourished under his leadership, with more dragons than ever before and the claiming of prime territory in the area. Relationships with the clans nearby are at their most stable, while hunting seasons have been good.

Pride enjoys regaling the exploits or achievements of his hatchlings. He takes pride in what they do in the name of the clan or to better the lives of those around them; though he does worry about Shadblow wanting to succeed him as the leader. Pride is fearful that his son’s short temper and lack of respect for the surrounding clans may lead to fights; even war.
He doesn’t feel ready to pass on the title, however, other dragons feel they can lead the clan better than he can. Many feel he is lazy and selfish, worried that he may choose to better himself before the clan.

Part of this is true, while he knows there are plans to overtake him, Pride would rather hire other dragons to deal with them in 'secret' rather than face a direct challenge. If he's going to face someone, they have to be the best in the clan; someone worthy of succeeding him.
