ALCHEMIST & WALKING EXPERIMENT

Malachite was born with withered wings, but this didn't stop her from developing a cheerful, almost overenthusiastic personality. She's not a total chatterbox, but she was always "that student" who would always ask "why?" to every class her generation of hatchlings had to sit through.

While this did grate on Crows nerves some, he also couldn't deny an inquisitive mind and would always direct her to books so she could do independent research. It was through these unofficial lessons that she found the journals of the clan's former alchemist, Twelve, and was utterly absorbed. She started begging for field trips to visit Baldwin and see pros at work, but until she got older she had to make due with her own experiments.

Which, the clan is sorry to say, have gotten even more noisy and smelly and explosive since she's gotten older. Refinement isn't really in Malachite's vocabulary.

Soon after she became of age and was able to stake a spot of her own in the lair for work and leisure, she started researching more of the Bogsneak mutagen. She found it utterly fascinating that her species was the result of a mutation rather than designed by the deities, and body modification became a particularly interesting field of study for her.

This work lead to her current appearance. While her wings never bothered her too much (she easily shot down childhood teasing with the fact that bogsneaks don't really fly in the first place), that didn't stop her from flaunting the second pair of crystalline appendages that had sprouted right above her natural ones after a particularly explosive experiment.

Currently she's working on some research papers comparing the differences of shapechanging through magic versus alchemy, and is immensely grateful to have an assistant in the form of her half sister, Siu, who she can send to collect materials while she focuses on the ~~more fun~~ harder parts of her projects.

As a very enthusiastic alchemist, it's not terribly surprising to find out that Malachite has quite a lot of residue from her experiments. What is a bit more surprising is nearly all of these leftovers seem to gain sentience, and as a result Malachite's corner of the lair is practically overrun by little gobbles of goo. The rest of the clan is fine with it so long as they don't leave her corner of the lair.

Unlike a lot of direct relatives in the clan, Malachite remains rather close with the mother, with them meeting for tea several times a month to discuss the various progress they each have made with their respective projects. She doesn't understand why Eia isn't interested in trying her wing modification recipe though. It would make such a nice hatchday gift!

R I V A L • S P I T Z
The perceived rivalry is entirely one-sided on Malachite's part. The much younger dragon admires Spitz's work in Arcane Sciences, and believes it's utterly possible for alchemy to be incorporated into the blended disciplines as well. As a result, she'll pop into Spitz's lab when she's hit a block on her own research for ideas. Cassie and Quartz always try to help her out, but why chat with assistants when she can go straight for the dragon in charge?
