It was a change, coming from the dust and relict-filled home of the Earth Kingdom, to the verdantly shifting lushness of this Wind Clan. It was a change to be on the move across this green sea, where once I merely stayed among my kin and our lair. It was a change to use my powers not just in the wilderness, but at home, to push and shape the earth into our massive nesting grounds. It was a challenge and I loved every moment of it. I feel as though I have found something I have been missing all my life. Perhaps even this call to shape the world is my Charge. But I think the biggest change came to me as I lived and slept and worked along my new kin, casters all of us. My mate is a greenmage and she was the one who first showed me the steps of forming a proper casting, of gathering Breath within, of not releasing it as an attack, but as a shaping force. We are well-suited to each other, I think, though she keeps her distance and her mind is often elsewhere, her red-freckled wings murmur when she thinks of things from the past. I believe it may have been another lover she misses; for her Charge, like mine, seems to also be our deepening skill at controlling our elemental magic. We suit each other, she and I, we lay together, length to length, and share Dreamtime, where our will is all important. Our magic is strongest when we are together. It was the big Imperial, Keiki, who saw with his keen eyes the faint lines first forming on my skin. He is a polite, if often tired fellow, and asked with concern, if I were becoming sunburnt. I did not understand what he meant until he brought me to the edge of a pool, the overhead sun turned it into a perfect mirror, and then I too saw what he saw. The lines were faint, barely even visible.

Even my beloved Obversaria was a bit at a loss, as the lines deepened in color, becoming at last rose-colored. This I really did not understand. I knew it was a Circuit gene manifesting, the Coatl Rahjah had been given Circuit they had said, but his was colored in Gold…. but he had been a guardian too, before he was changed.

But where on earth could mine have come from, and why did it's color intensify ever so slightly, when I gathered my energies and cast my spells, only to fade back down again when I was spent?

Neither my mother or father had circuit. ……. of all of the changes that have come to me, I think this one is the strangest.
