Haroun

Eager, but a little bumbling, unlike most members of the Pearlcatcher species, Haroun has a raging inferiority complex. He is always so sure that no one is going to like him and that he's going to mess everything up, that it often becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. Haroun is so desperate and enthusiastic about any project or friendship, but so awkward at the same time, that he often ends up going overboard and annoying other dragons. However, if anyone does grow fond of him, he will reward that fondness with a grateful, deep and enduring love and would go to the ends of the earth for them.

He will often think up new and "better" ways to do things - hunting, fishing, den-building - which are all inevitably disastrous. The clan still tells the story of his "improved, spring-loaded fishnet", which snared three of the clan and nearly drowned Hashi before Kennar managed to rip the ropes apart. Despite his constant failures, however, he keeps trying, and is quite stubborn about them, not giving up even when anyone else would long since have (sensibly) chucked it in.

His birth clan was a group of rather haughty Pearlcatchers, who prided themselves on their pure blood. Haroun's great-great-grandfather was a Skydancer, and the other Pearlcatchers never let him forget it. They looked down on him and excluded him because of his mixed lineage, and made sure that he knew that he was inferior in every way. Finally, Haroun decided he had had enough, and left his clan, wandering on his own from tribe to tribe, trying to find a place where he could fit in, but sabotaging himself at every opportunity and being told that he had to move on.

At last he happened across the Windrovers, and Caoimhe's easy acceptance of him, despite his faults, earned her his loyalty and devotion. He is a little afraid of Kennar, however, who has no time for his antics, and Haroun usually tries to stay out of his way. He is absolutely terrified of Xie, who is not at all patient about his manias. She is constantly irritated by him, and has more than once tried to beat him up when he got too annoying, forcing Kennar to step in.

Haroun is not much of a fighter, and is not very good at hunting, either, being a little clumsy and far too noisy, but he would be better if he stopped telling himself that he was terrible at it.

He had a brief relationship with Linaly which resulted in three offspring, all of whom left to join the temple of the Arcanist. However, Linaly soon tired of him and broke it off. Being a bit self-centered, vain and rather blunt, she wasn't good for him anyway, and only served to magnify his insecurities while they were together.

He is now in a committed relationship with Iridium, who he just worships. He thinks she knows just everything, and completely trusts her never to make him feel inferior. Being around such a laid-back and confident dragon is slowly wearing down his anxieties and teaching him to be more secure.
