Lunari's Role

While Ather is a peaceful clan, it is still important that they maintain some form of defense. Many clans disagree with Ather's peaceful way of life, and some clans would rather destroy Ather than see it prosper. As a result, an organized guard had to be formed in order to protect the clan from such threats. Lunari is the captain of the Ather's guard and reports directly to Klaw. His main tasks are to defend the clan, oversee the training of new recruits, and to keep the peace among members within the clan.

About Lunari

Lunari is a straightforward and honest individual. Raised in the Starwood Strand, Lunari set off on his own once he was able to fend for himself. He drifted from clan to clan for nearly a decade, fighting in whatever war the clan was embroiled in. He learned many different fighting styles through his travels and constantly sought to hone his skills. After years and years of fighting, however, the horrors of war began to take its toll on him. No longer wanting any part of senseless slaughtering over petty disagreements or deities, he visited Dragonhome and took up residence there for a few years before migrating to the Cloudscape Crags of the Southern Icefields upon hearing rumors of a peaceful Skydancer clan. He was welcomed into the clan and quickly gained popularity among Ather's members due to his agreeable nature. Being one of the few dragons in the clan with extensive training at the time, Klaw put him in charge of forming a militia to defend against any attacks from rival clans. Lunari eventually turned the militia into an organized guard and was made its captain.

Other Info

Lunari's Bubbling Goblin was a gift given to him by his friend, Azuor. (See Azuor's Bio)

Lunari has not spoken to his family since he left the Starwood Strand, as he left them on bad terms.

Despite having over a decade of experience in battle, Lunari has never been seriously injured.

“Found him.”

“Bring him here.”

“I’m trying… he’s kind of heavy, you know. And it’s not like he’s behaving himself.”

“Hurry up.”

“Did you even hear what I just said?”

“No.”

“Then how… nevermind. You’re just grumpy again.”

A metallic black and grey Mirror was thrown out into the dim light flowing through the roof of the damp cave. He growled and scrambled to his feet, baring his teeth at his pursuers. He couldn’t see them very well in the shadows, just a few feet out of the light, but he could tell they were all Skydancers. One of them stepped forward into the light, revealing a dark blue dragon with an azure underbelly. He was covered head to toe in cobalt colored filigree armor, with a helmet that covered all but his arcane eyes. The Mirror sized him up momentarily, thinking about all the ways he could take him down. Then he remembered he was surrounded and sobered up. Plus, he couldn’t let them see that he had stolen a book from the archives. He couldn’t. If they found out, he’d surely be killed. And if he was killed… well, he’d be letting quite a few people down. Just feign ignorance, he thought to himself. This cave connects to tons of different places. I could have been here for hundreds of reasons. He pulled his wings in closer to himself, pressing the book against his body until the edges began to dig into his scales.

“Who are you?” The blue Skydancer demanded, his blank expression disallowing any sort of guess as to what he was thinking.

The Mirror swallowed hard, before realizing they probably noticed that. Not helping my case. “Casrin,” he said, trying his best to prevent his nervousness from seeping into his voice.

“Casrin,” repeated the Skydancer, as he glanced to his left. He nodded to one of the dragons in the darkness and quickly looked back at the Mirror. “Well, Casrin, you’re in quite a precarious position.”

“I know, but let me-” Casrin started, only to be cut off by a hard kick to the jaw. He yelped, falling on his back legs and extending his wing to help cushion the fall. A brown, weathered book with leather binding bounced on the ground and landed at the Skydancer’s feet. The dragon’s gaze very briefly shifted to the book before landing back on the Mirror. Casrin didn’t dare to speak.

“This doesn’t belong to you,” the Skydancer said steadily. “Why do you want it?” Casrin didn’t know what to say. He couldn’t think between berating himself for putting out his wing, the sharp pain in his lower jaw, and his brain screaming at him to run. “Nothing to say? I can change that.” He motioned with a single claw for the other dragons to leave. They obeyed, except one. The mysterious dragon stepped into the light. A brown Skydancer with a bright red underbelly stared at Casrin, his face seething with anger.

“I’m not leaving until he’s dealt with,” he growled, taking a step toward the Mirror in a display of aggression. “He stole my book. Do you have any idea how important that book is to me? To us? To the clan?!” The blue Skydancer calmly put out an arm to block him from Casrin.

“Kestrel, I know. This isn’t your business now, it’s mine. I will deal with him.”

A lower, more subdued growl rose from Kestrel’s throat. “It IS my business! He stole from ME, not YOU.”

The Blue Skydancer turned his back to Casrin and kicked the book over to the intense Skydancer. The brown dragon quickly picked it up and tucked it under his wing. “I am ordering you to leave. Right now.” said the blue dragon.

“But I….” Kestrel paused for a moment, and then snorted indignantly. He gazed bitterly at the blue dragon before abruptly turning away and exiting the cave through a tunnel. Probably wasn’t worth the effort to argue, or this dragon is his superior. Probably both, Casrin realized. He then also realized that he could have made a break for it when they were distracted, but it was far too late for that now. The dragon turned back to face him, his expression shifting from blank to… friendly?

“I’m sorry for kicking you. I didn’t want to, but I have a reputation to keep. Can’t let them see the captain of the guard playing favorites.” the Skydancer said with a sly smile.

“You… know me?” asked the black dragon. He wracked his brain for a moment to see if he’d remember this dragon, but he didn’t.

“Mhm. You wouldn’t know me, though. We’ve never met. I’m your father’s friend.” He extended his hand to Casrin. The Mirror grabbed it and was pulled to his feet.

“Then help me. I need that book. I need it.”

“I know... but I’m sorry to say I can’t help you, not right now,” The Skydancer peered at the ground with a somber expression, shuffling his feet. There was a brief silence, or at least, as silent as it could get with the constant dripping and running of water from somewhere else in the cave. “You aren’t the first to come and try to steal it. That’s why we were able to catch you so quickly. Many others need the book as well. I don’t think anyone is allowed to even go near that damn thing until this whole disaster blows over.”

Casrin’s heart sank. He failed, and even someone from within the clan can’t help him now. What would he tell his brother and sister? That he wasn’t good enough to save their mother? That because of his failure, his family was likely going to fall apart? If only I was faster. If only I was more cautious.

“Hey…” the Skydancer gently put a hand on Casrin’s shoulder. “Hey. Listen. She’ll be fine… I’m sure your father can pull some strings, and maybe I can, too.” Casrin didn’t lookup. He couldn’t. There was little chance anyone could save his mother now. “Look, Casrin, I promise I’ll do everything I can to help, okay? I promise.”

That made Casrin felt a small bit better. He shouldn't give up so easily. Maybe the dragon could help. Maybe they would get lucky. Maybe this dragon would get the book somehow after all. He just had to hope. “Thank you… really. You saved me. If you weren’t here…”

“Don’t worry about it. Now come on, we should get you out of here before someone comes and sees I’m not interrogating you.”

“Yeah, okay. Thank you. But….I didn’t catch your name.”

The dragon smiled warmly. “Lunari.”
