Extra-Terrestrial in Hiding

Luckily it seemed the lifeforms in this area were quite used to seeing unidentified debris fall from the sky.
Less lucky, though, the skipper was, in short, un-repairable.
He'd had no intention whatsoever of landing, let alone being
stranded on this planet, though he recalled back to his station days that it had been a place of interest for astronomers; it was in the habitable zone of it's rather small star, had clear signs of water, and records dating thousands of years back showed clear evidence that it was, at least at one time, inhabited by sentient life. There'd been talk of attempting to contact whatever life remained there, but he wasn't quite sure the entire project hadn't fallen through.
Glittersheen had been on his way to a neighboring planet that was far more interesting, in that it was almost entirely untouched—there had been landings there in the past, most likely for emergency purposes only—and full of more resources that his colony could ever use. If he could just bring back proof that it was safe, they could establish a base, and an interplanetary exportation system, and maybe he'd accomplish something. Hell, maybe his parents would be proud of him.
But alas, that was too good to be true, or at least that's what the extra-terrestrial was realizing as he stared at the crushed, smoking ship, then at the spires of pink matter that towered over his head. What was here, anyways? All of these odd, curving mountains pointed in seemingly one direction, and there was an odd energy about the air, despite there being no visible source anywhere nearby. Green grasses swayed, and if he listened close he could hear the local fauna chirping, grunting, whatnot.
Salvaging what he could, Glittersheen took a deep breath and turned away from the skipper, mentally preparing himself for whatever he could anticipate finding.
This terrain was
exhausing; the alien was so used to just skittering along the level floors of the station or hypertransport that actually slogging up and down hills laden thickly with grass was quickly wearing on his muscles. Eventually he would slow to a stop and crouch, staring at what appeared to be a small village. It was rather quiet, apart from odd chirps and growls from unseen life, either domesticated animals or the sentient inhabitants, both unseen from where Glittersheen lay flat in the grass.
But then he saw a group of them; large and very animalistic, not at all the upright bipeds he expected to see, but by the way they seemed to speak to each other and wore garments,
armor of all things, they were clearly the dominant species. There were two of them, both raptor-like, with expansive wings, feathery spines, and whiplike tails. Glittersheen panicked as they began to trot away, and followed, trying to keep a steady distance between them without falling short.
They continued along a rather hidden path into a strand of bare trees, chattering to each other in an unfamiliar tongue, and when Glittersheen was close enough to properly study them he marveled at their size; they stood much taller than he, and were extremely well-muscled. Their deep magenta eyes were intense to look at, and even more so when they focused directly on him, pupils narrowing in confusion and hostility. With a small squeak of fright, Glittersheen turned on his heel and sprinted away.
They were faster, and would catch up to him in mere seconds; but it seems their confusion had left them quite dumbfounded and they neglected to chase after him immediately. He managed to scurry into tall grasses, and, heaving a slow breath, pulled the bodily switch tool out of his pocket. It was a small device, but with incredible power; anyone who possessed one could change their very form, but only twice. Glittersheen deemed this moment appropriate, and dimly recalling his training on how to safely operate the tool, assumed the form of one of the raptor-like creatures in a flash of greenish light. He felt an immense surge of power in his arms and legs, the most coming from a third pair sprouting from his shoulders. He angled his new flexible neck to see giant, shimmering wings, and promptly fainted.
