History Astoz was, similarly to Gentian, found feral and roaming the wild. Unlike Gentian, he was not guided by the gods, and suffered greatly during his time secluded in the wilderness. Despite the best efforts of the rest of the clan, Astoz is very anti-social, preferring his own company, or that of books to other people. The only exception to this is Virgo, who was Astoz’s first friend and eventually life mate. Considered to be a master of the wild, Astoz oversees hunting and gathering for most of Clan Alys. While he does occasionally order other dragons to assist him, he prefers to hunt and gather in solitude. If it were not for his excellent results, Xerces would have doubtlessly requested other dragons to assist him. Astoz leaves his cave dwelling very infrequently, typically only to go to the library, or gather food for the clan. He also prevents anyone but Virgo from entering his dwelling. Astoz uses the time he’d typically spend socializing practicing his art, creating intricate designs and pictures across his cave walls, or scraping them clean to start again. Despite what Virgo has told him, Astoz still believes his works are poor, and will often destroy what Virgo praised as an excellent rendition to work on something new. This has had the side effect of slowly increasing the size of Astoz’s dwelling – it now is nearly 50% larger than it started as. Astoz teaches no classes at Alys University, believing that he has no knowledge worth imparting. Instead, he spends his time on campus tending the grounds. He has said that, even if he did have any classes, he’d likely drop them in favor of grounds keeping, and that he gets far more satisfaction from seeing the lawns perfectly trimmed than seeing a student pass a class. Astoz is the life mate of Virgo, and they happily spend their days reading together. "In The Library"
“So, what are we reading today?” Astoz asked, as he stepped into the library with Virgo.
“It’s my favorite book! I don’t know how you’ve gotten away with not reading it yet, Astoz, but that ends today.” “Joy.” Astoz snarked, with a grin. “Go get us a place to read. I’ll meet you there.” Virgo said, flouncing off to find his book of choice. Astoz shook his head and went off to find his favorite reading spot in the sun. “Move.” Astoz growled, finding a couple of young dragons in his spot. His spot! It even had his (and Virgo’s) name on it. Astoz snapped out of his angry musing upon hearing Virgo’s laugh. “I think you scared those poor freshmen out of the library for the next month! I’ll have to reassure them that you won’t be coming for them in their sleep!” “Don’t be ridiculous Virgo. I’m not that scary” “Astoz, your glare could freeze boiling water. Add that to your scars which can be terrifying when you glare, and I’d bet that those poor children thought you were gonna visit them and show them why you’re a two-time bloodsport winner” “Virgo, please don’t joke about that.” “I’m sorry. Want to start reading?” “Please.” And with that, all conversation stopped as the two started reading. Occasionally one of them would move slightly as they shifted position in their cuddling. |
