Wind, whistling through my wings Sunlight, shining on my head Streams, trickling along smooth rocks Friends, laughing in the sky I perch on a boulder Watching, smiling Loving the air, The sea, The earth, And the clouds high above And I whisper That wonderful things are coming...
—written by ArcaneShadows
Cordelia. It means ‘daughter of the sea.’ That’s what you were meant to be, weren’t you? Found along the coast, an abandoned egg. So little, so lonely. Taken into the waves by the loving clan who ended up hatching you, naming you, calling you forth to explore the depths of your new home. And so young, so eager you were to swim along the reefs and engender yourself to the creatures that lived there. You crawled under the wrecks and found sparkling items, collecting them for your own tiny hoard, before you even knew what you truly were. Maybe one day you stuck around too long above water, breathing in that glorious sea air. Maybe the wind ruffled your fur, whistled past your wings. You felt it, then. What had been born within you long before you hatched. So you clambered up the cliff before waiting at the edge for some miracle to happen. Hovering there with your claws digging into rock, your body buffeted by the wind, your wings almost outstretched to catch it. But you worried. What if the birds overhead, they had a connection you did not? What if those wings you had -- they could not lift you, could not bear your weight, could not work? What if the wind rejected you, Daughter of the Sea? All it took was one leap of faith. And you, Cordelia, you sought more. You learned to leap from the cliffs and catch air, gliding down to the water below, bellowing laughter and trying again and again and again. Your clan aided your repeated efforts, though you outmatched them in size and weight when you were barely a week old. Those damn seagulls. They knew the truth of it, but you didn’t. Not yet. So you leapt and leapt and one day -- One brilliant day, in thunderous realization -- You flapped your wings. And you flew. You soared over the sea and the wind did not reject you -- it welcomed you, it loved you -- and you caught yourself on air, swinging, snaking, your wings working, your lungs bursting, laughter bubbling out of you as you realized the world was open to you. Freedom was yours. The wind, it brought you to the Cloudsong to rest, and you found someplace new. Someplace your heart settled first, your bones second. You spotted those among Rook and your soul found its resting place. And your clan understood. Though they named you, though you were and always will be a Daughter of the Sea -- you were a child of the wind, and with the wind you would go. A warrior for the clan, she's very dedicated to her work and looks up to her peers greatly. She's a bit anxious, but wants to do good. | ==== |
