Biography

Generation 2

She had known, always, that there was something different about her.

She had noticed it first when she was young, barely old enough to be able to fly. Her sisters and brothers spoke often of sensing magic and feelings, of feeling the other dragons' very energy, their soul. Emotions swept through them like a tide; when one was sad, happy, or angry, others would be too, in a matter of minutes.

Isana, though, understood none of this.

The others described the sensation as a sort of wave of energy, as strong as the feeling that had generated it. But she had never experienced something of the sort, not once in her life.

Soon, others began to notice it too. Isana was far too calm, and she sometimes seemed emotionless. Her siblings and parents began to worry; there had been few skydancers in Sornieth's history that were unable to feel others' emotions. And while the young female never understood why the matter was so concerning, she went along with her family's plan of taking her from one healer to another, desperately trying to fix her 'condition'.

Soon, the rest of her birth clan learned about her family's predicament. While most were supportive, there were a few individuals that tried to get involved in the matter to benefit themselves. Therefore, Isana was hidden, to be kept safe.

The skydancer spent the rest of her childhood in isolation. That did not affect her too much, however; even if she had had any friends, there would have been no time for her to spend with them, as she soon began her training to become a Celestial Runner, like her father. To their chagrin, her family discovered that she lacked magical talent, too; an unfortunate side effect of her disability. Thus, her training was mostly physical.

It was after she had finished her training that she met EightyEight. She was charmed by the bogsneak's elegance and gentlemanly manners; she followed him to his clan, a group of misfits and warriors in the Viridian Labyrinth called Silverbark Glade, without a second thought. There, she took on the position of a warrior; a fitting job for one such as her, though she was never an important or even regular member of the guard.

Isana and EightyEight's first two hatchlings left to serve the Gladekeeper. Yet their youngest daughter, Maria, stayed behind.

Isana had loved her child with all her heart, ever since she was born. She had watched over her anxiously for years, constantly looking for any clues that the little hatchling may have inherited Isana's condition. She trained Maria personally as a Celestial Runner, and was delighted to discover that she was far more talented in the art of magic than herself.

In her obsessive effort to give Maria the best life she could offer her, though, Isana failed to notice the youngling's festering resentment for her own mother, and her smothering attitude.

It started when Maria began to train with Silverbark's guard. She would head out into the wilderness, disappear for a few days, and when she returned, she would look for excuses to start a fight. After a while, Isana had had enough; she forbid her daughter from ever leaving the clan's grounds.

That was when Maria vanished.

For months, they heard nothing of her. She had left behind no note or tracks. Isana was devastated; she blamed her disability for her being unable to understand and connect with her child. If only she had been more lenient, more forgiving! If only she had been able to feel what others felt, to sense those waves of emotions her siblings had always spoken of!

EightyEight too, soon left the clan, seeking another home, unable to bear the thought that his daughter might have died in the wilderness. Isana was left alone, and, in her sorrow, withdrew from the rest of her clanmates, returning to that familiar isolation; the lonesome existence that her life had been before, and that, she believed, it was doomed to be forever.

Eventually, Maria returned, bringing her mate, a Light-born skydancer named Lothric, with her. Isana watched with pride as her daughter showed off her magic to everyone, her impressive spells a sign that her training was complete. She watched as the young female bravely negotiated the terms of her and her companion's stay with the clan leader.

And when she ran forward, wrapping her estranged daughter in her arms, her face streaked with tears, she felt Maria push her coldly away, as she left to join her beloved at their new home.

Life in the clan continued as before. Maria took on the position of sage, her magic being much stronger than her mother's. Isana, having little left beside her physical prowess, became a regular member of the guard, often venturing into the wilderness to seek food and treasure. And when she returned from a day's work, she would retreat to her little home, to her lonely existence.

She was different from the others, after all. And that difference had doomed her to a life of solitude.
