‍ ‍ ‍ ‍Duskfang nodded. "They are your Charge?"
‍ ‍ ‍ ‍"My charge? No, no, my Charge is more than... My Charge is the earth. It is their bones and every battle they fight. I am my clan, I..." She scraped her claws into the earth. "You need to help me. The priest said you could."
‍ ‍ ‍ ‍"I can." He already had his herbs packed away, his crystals and runes. "My payment, of course, must be discussed."
‍ ‍ ‍ ‍A flicker of understanding came to her. She seemed, for a moment, more lucid than before. "I've been told you do not seek treasure."
‍ ‍ ‍ ‍"True. Do you know what I ask in return?"
‍ ‍ ‍ ‍The guardian nodded solemnly. "You may have my dreams. They do me no good anymore. There are too many faces I miss."
‍ ‍ ‍ ‍"We have an agreement, then." Out of curiosity, he couldn't help but ask, "your mate, does he know of this?"
‍ ‍ ‍ ‍"Copperflight's concerns are with the living. I will not deprive him of that joy."
‍ ‍ ‍ ‍Duskfang understood. He once more ensured that he had everything, made easy by the fact that he had little in possessions, and while he couldn't quite believe that he was going to the Earth flight clan, of all places, any sort of work in this vein now was worth more to him than his time at the Sanctum was. His skill was in claws-on research and experimentation, not dry academia.
‍ ‍ ‍ ‍"Lead the way, Treva," he told her. "I look forward to meeting Strongearth for myself."
‍ ‍ ‍ ‍Those ancient brown eyes seemed to stare into him once more. "You've already met her."
