____Plundered. Stolen. Snatched.

An unordinary beginning for an ordinary egg.

Egg thievery was not uncommon in the Scarred Wasteland. The packs of Mirror dragons there considered anything that held even a bit of life food, and so they would scourge the land for the nests left unattended. Once they found one, they would take the occupants, then disappear into the red haze of their festering homeland.

This was the fate for a particular Imperial's egg. Imperials were highly feared in the Scarred Wasteland, due to their massive size and the ferocity of which they protected things important to them. However, an unguarded Imperial's nest was less impressive, and the fact that it was an Imperial's nest did not deter a Mirror pack from taking the egg from where it laid and stealing away in the darkness, leaving naught but an empty nest behind them.

Only two fates were possible for the stolen egg: death or the life of a slave, and neither path was kind. However, as the egg pulsated gently in the claws of its captor, Fate wove a third path for it, and the Mirror pack was apprehended by a group of scientists. They were researchers, the dragon in lead told the Mirror pack, and they were searching for eggs to use in their experiment. They would pay the Mirrors well, very well, if the plundered eggs were to be given to them.

The exchange was made, several eggs and sacks of gold passed about, and by the end of the day, the Imperial egg had a new owner. Or captor, depending how one looks at it. For though Fate had inadvertently saved it from the Mirrors, it was not kind, and perhaps the third path was the worst fate that any egg could suffer.

For among the scientists, there were those whose pursuit of knowledge eclipsed that of their humanity, and there were those whose pursuit took them far beyond the limitations of what was thought possible. As an entirety, the group sought to not create life, but change it, form it, and shape life in their claws the way the Earthshaker moulded the earth to create the first Snapper dragons.

The experiments on the eggs were terrible, and previously, not one egg had survived the ordeal. This was why the researchers had turned to the eggs of Plague heritage, believing them hardier and more suitable for their research. They injected many things into the plague eggs, from venom to old blood to monster essence. The Imperial egg became corrupted with what was perhaps the worst extract of them all - the blood of an Emperor dragon, coupled with venom of the long-extinct vampires.

And the egg did not hatch.

Perhaps it was because the hatchling within it had long since died, perhaps because the venom and blood injected into it had prolonged its incubation period. Whatever the case, as the egg still pulsed gently with signs of something alive, the scientists decided to keep it, and watch.

Little did they know, not only was the unborn Imperial still alive, its comprehension had far exceeded that of any hatchling. Emperor blood had made it strong, and vampire venom had not vanquished its life, but sharpened its senses. Though it remained shielded by the gooey shell of its egg, it heard all the scientists spoke of, and eventually came to understand them. Hatred built up within it - the fury of an Emperor, and the mindless bloodlust of a vampire. It struggled and fought, but for some reason could not break past its shell. The scientists noticed this, grew delighted, and took the egg from where it floated in a capsule of liquid to forcibly hatch it.

They never had a chance.

For as long as they'd done the experiments, they had been under watch, and rumours about them had flown. These rumours had reached the ears of two monster dragons - dragons not quite alive, but not dead either. Furious that lives were being trifled with, they launched an attack on the laboratory just as the Imperial egg was brought to a pedestal.

The battle was a one-sided one, but it did not go well for the winning side, either. For as the two monsters broke into the laboratory, the ceiling came down on it. Frozen by fear, the unborn Imperial struggled desperately to hatch, but was unable to. It could only watch as pieces of the ceiling streaked down towards him like spears thrown from the heavens.

And she protected him.

Selflessly, ferociously, without even a moment of thought for her own life, one of the monsters threw herself in the way. She tried to erect a barrier of magic, but the destruction was too strong, and the shield shattered. Even so, she protected the egg, though glass shards and beams and splinters of metal pierced its body. Her blood fell in drops on the Imperial egg, and the unborn dragon had its first taste of blood.

It was strange, this metallic sensation, and the Imperial hatchling clung tightly to it as the laboratory collapsed. Before all was devoured by the darkness, it felt the warmth of the monster protecting it, and found comfort in this warmth.

But if the Imperial egg had learned anything at all, it was that Fate was not kind. The warmth that the egg clung to vanished, and the egg was forced to watch, trapped within itself, as the female monster bled out and fell to her wounds. The other monster that came with her grieved, and the egg grieved also. For it had never felt warmth like what the female monster had given it, and despite how fleeting the moment had been, it was precious.

Eventually, the remaining monster stood, and let fires take his friend's body. As white spirals of ash were taken by the wind, the monster gathered up what eggs remained of the experiment. The Imperial egg, too, was found, and the monster took them all to a small cave where he and his friend had stayed the night before their assault. He left them where the sun could shine down upon them; where the wind could caress them, and retreated into the cave.

And as white ash rained down from the heavens, the Imperial egg hatched.

____The firstborn of the eggs that Amson had salvaged, Lestat was more like a monster than he was a dragon. With vampiric tendencies and the blood of Emperors flowing in his veins, he had no heartbeat, needed no air, and craved only blood. He was dead, but he was alive, and he wasn't just a half-alive dragon like Amson was. He was a walking corpse, a shadow of what could've been.

Given time, perhaps he would've turned into the terror that dragons called vampires. But he had tasted the blood of the dragon who'd saved him, and he was raised by Amson. The compassion of his saviour, and the teachings of one not so different from him made Lestat determined to be different from the rest of his race. He would be as kind as his saviour, as accepting as Amson was of his monster heritage. And above all, he would be proud of who he was.

Lestat was a quick learner from birth, and by the time the other eggs started hatching, he was the one to take care of them, under Amson's watchful eyes. He always followed Amson's lead, never complained, and listened to understand, and not to reply, the former of which was rather difficult for Amson, as the Bogsneak can never really tell if Lestat was actually listening to him or not.

Eventually, it was decided that they join a clan. It was where Amson was happy, where he could relax, and it was where the other saved hatchlings could grow up, unafraid of the past and the future. Lestat had no problems with joining a clan, and when the clan had no problems with supplying him with the blood of their enemies, he took his recruitment as a lifelong contract. He was surprised by the fact that none of his new clanmates hated or feared him (possibly due to the fact mutant dragons are not much of a rarity in the Starfall Isles), and slowly grew more comfortable with his identity.

Within the clan, Lestat has the respect of his clanmates, and his opinion is always one to hear. He is unafraid of speaking the truth and laying out the pros and cons, and thus his voice carries much weight within the clan. A plan without his consent is almost certainly a disaster, and dragons have learned that if they want to avoid turning everyone within a thirty-mile radius into a cactus, it's best for them to speak to Lestat first.

Much like the monster that had saved him, Lestat is quick to action, thoughtful, and resolute. He is fair and rarely judging, and speaks in a polite, formal manner when addressed - though when provoked, the sarcasm he radiates is fatal.

As a vampire, Lestat needs nothing but blood. Out of consideration for his clanmates, he also dines on whatever foods they bring him, though he really hates the dryness of the cakes and other pastries they make. Lestat is incredibly strong, due to the mixture of Imperial, Emperor and vampire within him, and is also capable of being amazingly stealthy. This stealth isn't always appreciated, however. More than a few clanmates have suffered severe heart disorders from being suddenly approached by a twenty-seven-metre long dragon popping out of nowhere.

When Lestat isn't helping with the running of the clan, he can be found sleeping during the day and gone in the nights. It's uncertain as to where exactly he goes, but once Starbrite tracked him to what looked like the ruins of a laboratory. There he would sit, alone, in a particular spot, and stare up at the moon. He would smile, abruptly, and it would seem as if a breeze of white flecks was brushing against him...
