Lore by CayCay!

Friendship lives forever. Almost as long as Betty White. And no one can split real friends up, or so they tell me. There is evidence to support this however. The story of two friends who never really left each other. Who never will.

Earthstorm was born into the Shadow flight, just like a number of her family. This dragon was already very empathetic, like she could feel the pain of others. It was all manner of awe-inspiring for other dragons. By now, I’m sure you’re wondering why they call her Earthstorm. Hold your horses, I’m getting there.

Her family was big on travel, something unique to her Shadow clan. Most Shadow born dragons rarely left the Tangled Wood. They were traveling through Dragonhome, the young and inexperienced Skydancer flying clumsily along behind them.

Suddenly, a huge tremor rocked the earth below them, sending up a sandstorm. The unnamed Skydancer hatchling, who had barely gained the strength to fly, was sucked into the swarming sand, knocking her to the ground. She would have cried out if the sand wouldn’t have choked her to death.

She covered her head and cried, waiting with fear and dread to be helped. No one came. The other members of her clan were too busy trying to evade flying rocks and debris. They didn’t have time to remember the hatchling. Her mother was the only one that seemed mildly concerned.

When they found her, the Skydancer was lying under the sand, trembling. There was dirt covering her body, and sand in her eyes. She was crying and afraid. Her mother coddled her and soothed her. But she did earn the name Earthstorm because of it. You could even say that mishap became legend within the clan.

However, her rocky start only got rockier. Earthstorm didn’t fit in very well with the other hatchlings in her clan. She preferred to spend her time sitting on a rock outside the main den, keeping a journal of everything she saw. Earthstorm was in love with the written word. She saw how powerful it could be if used properly.

Earthstorm never really adjusted to life in Shadow. She secluded herself from them right up until the day she reached adulthood. Her mother smiled and encouraged her out of the clan. To find a home for herself.

This Skydancer found her home in a new clan a few weeks later. The journey had been long and difficult, and she never wanted to deal with another dragon outside a home clan again. Honestly, she just wanted to be alone.

There in a Shadow clan whose name escapes her even to this day, Earthstorm was welcomed with open arms. She didn’t mind the darkness, but she also didn’t welcome it. The young Skydancer ultimately chose that clan because she had nowhere else to go. She was stuck there, probably forever.

Anyway, Earthstorm later heard tell of a young Wildclaw whose life had fallen into tragedy upon losing her mother. Taking pity on the dragon and sort of feeling her pain, the Skydancer decided to investigate. And so, she met WhiteAzure, which was probably the defining moment in her life.

WhiteAzure seemed to hate her. She would shove her away, call her names, then throw her out of the den. Earthstorm knew that beneath that defiant exterior, there was a heart of gold. She just needed to find it. So every day, she went back to WhiteAzure and made dumb small talk with her, trying to get a word out of her.

It didn’t happen. Months passed and there was no progress. Earthstorm was losing hope with this sassy teenage Wildclaw. But she kept going back. In spite of herself and all the younger dragon did to turn her away, she saw something more in WhiteAzure. She wasn’t going to give up this easily.

Finally, twelve months were gone. It became a year. Nothing had worked. The dragon got more and more upset each day. Earthstorm had lost most of her patience. She’d even yelled at the Wildclaw once or twice. Sure she felt bad, but that was ridicuolous, the Wildclaw constantly rejecting her efforts to help her.

After the year’s mark, Earthstorm knew that WhiteAzure was ready. Ready to hear what she was hiding. She began to share deeper, darker things with WhiteAzure. Began to open up to her in a way she never had before. She poured out every thought and emotion coursing through her head. She talked to WhiteAzure like they’d been friends since they were born. It was a shock for the Wildclaw.

Soon, WhiteAzure would look at her. Then listen. Then even say a few words back. That evolved into long conversations each day, held by two dragons who knew more about each other than they would have dreams. Slowly, they became the best of friends.

Earthstorm watched as WhiteAzure healed from her sorrow. She documented everything that happened between her and her friend. She wrote it all down for everyone to see. She wrote it down so no one would forget.

Eventually, the two of them realized they still didn’t belong here. Earthstorm thought hard about their options. They didn’t have many. She eventually just told WhiteAzure that the best thing to do was leave. The Wildclaw agreed.

Earthstorm packed up with WhiteAzure, and the two of them weren’t quite sure what to do or where to go. But they set out. They just didn’t belong in Shadow anymore. In fact, being honest with themselves, they never really had.

They found many clans on the way. But none was quite right. Earthstorm couldn’t think of a place in need of a warrior like WhiteAzure and a writer like her. She thought for a long time though, and she finally came up with a place. Thinking back to her childhood and the clan she’d visited in Dragonhome.

She took WhiteAzure there, and the Wildclaw was so intrigued by the Pillar that she immediately declared this was a perfect place. And it was. They just needed to find a clan now, a clan that would accept them as they were.

This Skydancer eventually located the same clan she’d seen in her youth. The two friends joined it together, accepted with loving arms. If you guessed it was this clan, you’re right. They found a permanent place here for themselves, and they wouldn’t give it up for anything.

Earthstorm immediately found her place as the clan scribe. She loved sitting down and just letting everything she saw flow onto scrolls. It was now her favorite thing to do, and the Earth territory was just a great place in general. Plus, here? No one questioned her name. No one was confused.

She made sure WhiteAzure settled in okay. The two best friends haven’t drifted apart at all. They still support and protect one another as best they can. Earthstorm would give her life for her friend, and WhiteAzure would do the same.

Earthstorm is happier here than she ever was. With her friend. She knows now that Shadow was never her home. The Tangled Wood was a dark, cruel place, and she wasn’t supposed to be there. Now that she understands why she was an outcast, she is much more content with life here. She wouldn’t change it for anything.
