 于禁 | Yu Jin 文則 | 162 - 221 | 195 cm The Disgraced General Solitary. Yu Jin was known for one thing—and it was how ungodly strict he was. Those who were his subordinates were terrified of his threats of execution and punishments and those who were his enemies feared the exact same thing. Yu Jin was no stranger to hatred and used it to his advantage to make his soldiers scared of him to follow his every order. Though he lacks hesitation to punish anyone who he feels is not following through with their work, Yu Jin was a much more caring person than they thought he was. Though he never showed it openly, Yu Jin did everything he could to keep his soldiers in line and put their safety and lives first before anything else. He didn’t want his soldiers to die meaningless deaths and to be able to go home to their families and live another day. But because of how threatening he made himself to be, his soldiers and other generals avoid him, making Yu Jin suffer from loneliness. His insistence on his men’s lives brought him infamy at the Battle of Fan Castle, the floods destroyed Pang De and Yu Jin’s troop’s ability to fight. Guan Yu captured both men and Pang De refused to surrender and got him and his men killed. But Yu Jin didn’t want his men to die. He begged that his men be saved and he would surrender to them, even if it would destroy his own reputation and be branded a coward. So he became a war prisoner, tortured by his own actions and knowing everyone would point at him and call him a failure if he ever could go home. Yu Jin was saved by Wu, when Lu Meng eventually came and captured Guan Yu for refusing to give back Jing Province. Sun Quan brought Yu Jin back to Wu and treated him like an honoured guest for the next year, doing his best to bring back Yu Jin’s spirits. But Yu Jin was broken and he was being ridiculed mercilessly by an advisor of Sun Quan. When he was released to go back to Wei, Cao Pi ordered him to visit his father’s grave. When Yu Jin went, he saw himself being portrayed as a coward and Pang De a hero. He gave so much and this is what he got. He collapsed from his own grief, death came knocking at the door.
