Mallory remembers nothing of her mother or her father. She remembers being kidnapped, taken out from right under their unwitting noses. Still, to this day, she resents them for not paying a little more attention to their only daughter. Her grandmother was certainly a kind dragon, but had strong views. She thought that Coatls were the epitome of all dragons and each one should only live in a clan of all Coatls. She tried to steal more of her daughter's children, but managed to only nab one. A small, black Coatl that wasn't even old enough to have a name. The kidnapped dragon was taken away to an all Coatl clan. Her grandmother left her there, with a quick goodbye and a peck on the cheek. Her only other relative disappeared forever, leaving her in a clan that resented her. At the time, Mallory was a bright spirit, full of life and vigor. But the color of her scales hindered her. The Coatls in her clan were no different than the Coatls anywhere else; because her scales were dully colored, dragons around her thought she was bad luck or carried a horrible disease. So, they named her Mallory, meaning bad luck. Eventually, she left, unable to take the ridicule anymore. She wanted to get as far away as possible from her evil clan, and didn't pause in her running for a week straight. She got as far as the Everbloom Gardens before collapsing in exhaustion. A young couple discovered her by a river and took her in. They were part of a large clan of dragons. Mallory, from all her time of ridicule and shame, ignored most of them, even when they seemed friendly. But one dragon was like a tick; she wouldn't leave no matter how hard she shoved. This was Darling. Stubborn, beautiful Darling. The dragon, a sweet Snapper, seemed determined to bring all of Mallory's walls down. At first, Mallory resisted, ignoring the clingy dragon. But gradually, so slowly and quietly that she didn't even notice, Darling started to grow on Mallory. She soon found herself falling head over heels for the pink dragon. They became partners in crime. Or, rather, Mallory was the one who did the crime, Darling was the one who argued against the crime. They were rarely seen apart, even falling asleep together. Mallory and Darling happened to be born on the same day, which was great for them, since, on the birthday that marked them leaving the clan, they would be able to depart together. |

Mallory was content with just being with Darling, but on that day, she was reminded why she loved the Snapper with all her soul. Darling, over so many months, had saved up enough treasure to last them a lifetime. Now, not only could she live with Darling, but Mallory could live comfortably for the first time in her life. They traveled across Sornieth. Their adventures were numerous in number and rich in adventure. The two grew even closer through their journeys, though that seems impossible. As they aged, they felt a little weary from all their traveling. The adventures and fun caused them to age, a little prematurely, and they now felt the tug to settle down in a clan. After much searching, they finally found the perfect one. Before Darling became a matchmaker, she was struggling to come up with a way to contribute for the clan. Mallory suggested the idea, and immediately, Darling became the dragon that brought love to the most hopeless of cases. After her mate eased into her job, Mallory thought of a fabulous idea. She could be the other side of the equation; the information dealer. With her dark scales, she was the perfect spy, slinking through shadows to learn more about anyone and everyone. Though she is certainly untrustworthy, she never sells false information. Every scrap of knowledge she sells has been double-checked, triple-checked by Mallory. Mallory will always offer her thoughts and predictions on a manner for the light price of free, since they might not turn out to be true. Though her friends are few and far in between, those closest to Mallory know how loyal the Coatl can be. After a childhood of being called a bad omen, Mallory has learned how much words can hurt, and will defend her friends to the death, from both physical and verbal abuse. Often, dragons insult Mallory, saying she is foul and ill-tempered, which is absolutely right. But when they accuse her of not loving Darling, that's when her claws come out... Recently, she decided to speak to one of the main dragons who maintain the treasure and gems to speak about a breed-change scroll, ready to leave her past behind. At the suggestion of Darling, Mallory got a mirror scroll, and hasn't turned back since. |
