Rumours of a hulking metal creature can be found all over Sornieth.

Not much is known about it, because it never stops when hailed. It bounds constantly forward, at a pace too tireless and for any dragon to keep up with for long. It ignores roads, crashing heavily though the underbrush as if it were no obstruction. It never stops for shelter, even in the pelting rain, nor lights its way at night. Some say it bounces by with a rhythmic hiss like pistons, and a clank of thick metal. Most dragons dismiss such accounts as silly stories, imaginings spurred by an armoured stranger with somewhere to be.
However, many do hold firm that there is something strange that travels the land, ignoring blizzards that would freeze the shaggiest tundra to the bone, and bounding though volcanic vents that would kill any dragon with their heat. Such a creature is beyond dragonkind, they say.

They are correct, actually.
Except that is no creature, it's an automaton.

Euclase, a tinkerer and mechanic from Lightning territory, created it, dubbing it "Bowenite". She crafted it vaguely in the shape of a Snapper and dressed it as innocuously as she could. It does her bidding, simple tasks like running errands to pick up specific parts from other clans. Euclase crafted a series of orbs which Bowenite can sense at long distances, and she uses those . When dragons of Clan Snastle travel alone, they sometimes borrow one of these orbs. If unable to find their way back home to the constantly roaming Snastle, activating the orb will cause Bowenite to come to their location and lead them there. Euclase can't help but be displeased when he creation is distracted from his errands, so when Bowenite's soft beeping and whirring noises began to take on a decidedly impatient tone until it is dismissed back to regular duties, clan mates assumed she had programmed it to do so.

This was not the case. Bowenite has displayed surprising signs of increased pattern recognition, and its beeping has become more emotive over time. While programmed only to avoid running into other landbound creatures, it has recently started to be almost polite in its movements.
Euclase is fascinated and is investigating the changes, rather enjoying the slowly unfolding 'personality' of her automated creation.
