She is the anchor buried underneath the weight of currents and tides. She is the foundation atop which live her children.

For them, she would pound an earthquake into submission, she would sacrifice her body to the thick magma of a volcano if it meant keeping them safe.

She is strength, she is courage.

Scars mar her body, big and small, thick and thin. They paint her skin with proof of her devotion, of her righteous anger.

Do not mistake her strength for brutishness. She is as wise as the lands she roams upon. Her mind, a temple in which her protected take refuge, a haven amongst the chaos of the living

"may our worlds collide."

Blue.

It was the first colour she learned.

The colour that surrounded her, in the broken shards of her egg, the shine of her scales and the bubbles that floated around her.

Hydra watched the world through a blue haze, the movements of other dragons blurry to her young eyes. She recognized some voices, while others seemed harsh to her sensitive ears.
Yet from the moment she opened her eyes, she felt a sense of loneliness, of loss.

Soft voices followed her, shapes never far behind her as she took her first small steps, watching the movements of the water in awe.

They followed her as she slowly grew, learning about the world from the deep depths of the water to the highest peak of the world pillar and all the way to the frigid prisons of ice far to the west.

She took everything in with wide and curious eyes, treating it as of the utmost importance.
But no matter how many times she read a book or looked over a map of Sornieth, that persistent feeling of loneliness never faded.

Hydra worked tirelessly as she grew older. She spent her days studying and learning. Her nights were often spent in dreams of green and purple.

She would wake up in the mornings, the green lingering behind her eyes for a few minutes before the blue haze returned and she went to work on another repetitive day.

The Charge was something she learned about in a dusty book at the back of the library.

It was a word she had never heard before, but it described her loneliness. A persistent feeling of loss, like there was something out there she had to find.

She set to work searching, looking for anything else she could learn about the Charge, ever the seeker of knowledge. Books were few and far in between, often offering nothing to her increasing frustrations.

Other dragons avoided her questions, looking away and leaving Hydra desperate for answers. No amount of searching could answer her questions. Until she overheard another dragon one day.

She stood behind a blanket hanging from a market stall, listening as a young male guardian spoke of his charge. He spoke of the world and knowing it was out there, he just had to find it.

She listened until they left, her mind drifting hazily through the answers she had been given. The flashes of green and purple, the feeling of loneliness. It made sense to her now.

The world above water was not quite what Hydra had ever expected it to be. It was cold for her, her body used to the warmth of the water. Her eyes hurt from the harsh sun and her ears were overwhelmed by the sounds.

Hydra crouched at the edge of the water, digging her talons into the sand as her senses slowly adjusted to the hectic world around her. Her mind focused on the colour green as if reminding her of her purpose above water.

With one more deep breath, Hydra pushed herself away from the ground and took a step forward, leaving the world she knew so dearly.

Behind her lay her very existence, the proof of her life as a dragon. It would be gone until she found a charge and started her new life.

She walked along the shores aimlessly, stopping to eat occasionally. The smell of rot drifted to her as she followed the edge of a putrid land, strange growths reaching for the water.

Hydra blinked, staring out at the distant and unforgiving land.

She turned away from the lands of rot and death, heading for a distance forest. A forest of mists and mushrooms, reaching out to the beach and beckoning her closer.

She didn’t know where to go.

With one final look at the water mere inches away from her talons, she turned and ran. She stumbled, her wings folded awkwardly at her side as she lumbered towards the forest, lost and lonely.

The mists reached for her as she drew close and she charged into them, immediately enveloped.

Lore Continued

Purple.

Everything was purple.

The mists swirled around her, turning what she always saw a shade of purple.

The trees, the forest floor littered with pine needles, even the ever so faint sun fighting its way through the heavy canopy was stained purple.

She stumbled through the ground filled with roots and brambles, her eyes covered with mist.

Helpless, she felt helpless. With no sense of direction, blinded. No amount of reading could ever truly tell you how to navigate without a sense of sight.

Twigs crackled behind her, propelling her forward. The occasionally blue glow showed through the mist, coming from small mushrooms rooted in trees. Brambles reached out for her, their spiked vines reaching for her wings, tripping her feet.

With a cry, Hydra stopped. She was terrified.

A small flutter behind her catches her attention yet she could see nothing.

Blue.

The sound of an egg cracking.

Purple.

The loss of sight in an unfamiliar place.

Green.

The feeling of comfort and home.

She stares at the small Fae in front of her, his green wings folded carefully against his side as he watches her with curiosity. Home. Hydra returned his gaze, finally understanding what it meant to be home.

What it meant to have a purpose.

What it meant to have a family.
