B I O G R A P H Y

______ Veltarkon comes from the Scarred Wasteland, from a clan known for their ferocity and hospitality alike. He is the son of the leaders of the clan, Priya and Alune, and he certainly acts like it. Veltarkon is a proud and commanding dragon, a natural leader and drawing respect wherever he goes. He isn't comfortable if he doesn't have some measure of control, and most dragons led by him come to follow his orders unquestioningly. He's a fair judge and not overly harsh, but won't tolerate disobedience and isn't afraid to get violent if he has to. These traits made him a natural second-in-command for Klaeod, taking a lot of strain of leading off of him while leaving him in total control.

______ Priya and Klaeod are familiar with one another, their clans friendly and essentially allied from opposite ends of Sornieth. When Veltarkon was just reaching adulthood, Klaeod and Nikita came to visit, for one official reason or another. Veltarkon knew that he wouldn't be able to find a permanent place in the clan he was born, so when they left, he went with them, quickly settling into life in the Shifting Expanse. He writes letters to Priya (through Naida) frequently with updates and asks her advice when he is lost on how to approach a problem, knowing that she is an excellent leader as well and far wiser than he is.

______ Veltarkon is particularly skilled at commanding during battle and tactics, always carrying maps of the surrounding area and various other important documents with him. Anyone who touches his bag is subject to getting yelled at and possibly mauled, as he is very protective over what he considers his and isn't afraid to defend it. Veltarkon isn't one to let anyone mess with his clan and will defend it to his last breath, but isn't as easily angered as Klaeod. He's not known to shout unless necessary and is more often found going around to dragons under his command and checking on their progress. He dislikes being told what to do but will obey any dragon he perceives as higher up than him, which usually only applies to Klaeod and Priya.

______ Veltarkon lost his eyesight in an unusual and violent incident. Witnesses to the event, including Flamebreaker and Feltus, saw Veltarkon freeze in place as if someone had walked over his grave, eyes locked on Ysaldra. His eyes narrowed and he bared his teeth, leaping forward and attacking with uncharacteristic brutality. He only got a couple of slices in before Arvon slammed into him, knocking him off of Ysaldra and pinning him to the ground in a fit of rage. She clawed at his eyes, permanently blinding him, and was immediately banished from the clan by Klaeod, mate, charge, and all.

______ When asked about the incident, however, Veltarkon claims he has little to no memory of it. He remembers seeing Ysaldra, then being pinned to the ground by Arvon before his world was darkness and pain. The loss of his eyes troubles him deeply, keeping him from doing all of the jobs he used to be able to do. One of his favorite hobbies, reading, is now denied to him as well, which caused him to fall into a deep depression that only abated a couple of months after the incident. Naunet has done her best to teach him how to get along without eyesight, and it has helped, but it's really been Naida that has done the most for him.

______ Naida, always a close friend of Veltarkon's, has now grown even closer in an attempt to help him overcome the challenges presented by his blindness. She acts as a seeing-eye dragon and describes things he needs to see, even sitting in the library reading to him long into the night. Kyverok has enchanted several rolls of parchment to whisper the words written on them into the ear of whoever places their hands on them, which has proved a great asset to Veltarkon as well.

______ What cannot be determined, however, is why Veltarkon attacked Ysaldra. He has no memory of the incident, and witnesses claim that he seemed very out of character during the attack. Achelous has attempted to both console Veltarkon and dig into his psyche to find something hidden there that could answer these questions, but to no avail. Endgame quietly brought the possibility of Shade influence to Klaeod's attention one night, but they have kept their theory from the rest of the clan,
too terrified of the implications.
