Even with Gisil’s companionship, Nil had no plans to settle down. She still sought to improve her skills. They traveled together, Nil lending her skills to smiths in exchange for knowledge, and Gisil providing assistance.

There was a decent chance that Nil would have abandoned their first egg if Gisil had let her. But the Tundra picked up that lone egg and carried it with them, nestled safely between his wings. He cared for it during their travels, and was the one watching it when the hatchling inside began to stir.

Nil returned from working to find Gisil snuggling up with a tiny gray Fae.

The hatchling looked sickly, tiny and weak. Nil approached it carefully, watching to make sure its chest was still rising and falling. Gisil nudged the hatchling and it came to life, stretching and yawning and opening its bright orange eyes for the first time. And Nil knew she could never abandon it.

And that it was time to settle down.
