Biography
Siekte Black-Touch
Priestess Mate: Putridus |
Hand of Blessing The Putrid Dancer Siekte was selected by the previous priestess of the same name to be her successor. Her parents were handpicked, then her egg selected and taken from the nest, to be born in the deepest chamber of the clan's lair, where she was raised by the priestess. Seikte's secrets were granted in revelations to the young skydancer. Once she was strong enough, her mentor took her to explore the deeper mysteries underlying the putrid crawling earth and set about a pilgrimage to the Wyrmwound itself. There the young Siekte was left by her mentor, alone to meditate and test her strength. It was there she found transformation and full enlightenment - overcoming the deadly tests and walking away alive and all but immune. She returned to the clan and took her place as high priestess, by the time she returned, her mentor had gone from the clan, having had absolute faith in the young Siekte's success and return. |
Siekte's duties are primarily in interpreting and relaying the will of the Plaguebringer, and bestowing her blessings and powers to the clan. She considers her work as holy, and generally keeps out of the lesser affairs and politics of the clan.
In the deepest regions of the lair she cultivates all manner of terrible and unknowable afflictions, her communion with plague. It is these deep regions where the ill and suffering are kept, and Siekte offers succor and healing, using her considerable knowledge of these afflictions.
Extracts and concoctions of puss and spoil and taint are bottled and traded as well. The most valuable of which are drained or derived from the seepings of Siekte's own body.
The Exalter
Another of Siekte's primary duties as priestess is the preparation of Honored dragons to be sent into the ranks of the Plaguebringer. It is mainly through him that these dragons reach the Plaguebringer, with Minstri only taking part in the sending under very special circumstances.
"That vile appearance masks a creature of profound gentleness." - Bastion of Guiding Light, Susan "Adapt or perish, that is the truth of the ever-changing path to our holy mother, and Siekte is the holder of the map. With that, she can lead one to life or death at her own choosing." - Aldozat Verthandi Wyrdworm |
The Scroll of Devotion
|
This scroll contains all the clan records about dragons that have been Exalted to service the Plaguebringer. It includes many details about each dragon that was exalted, as many as Tephra could include. The Twins and the Teacher spend a great deal of resources to hone dragons to serve the Plaguebringer. Mintri judges each one as they are brought or born to the lair, and may select them to join the Exalted as one of the following classes. Honor Dragons are often selected to join the clan into this class, though some are born into it. They are referred to collectively as Honor - existing only to honor the Plaguebringer and the clan. They are treated highly by the clan, as they will reflect the worthiness and strength of the clan as a whole to others once they depart. These dragons devote themselves to finding and honing the strongest aspects of their character. Should they fail this, they are resigned instead to hand over their body, to be remade as the world demands. Rarely the Honored may be sent to allied factions in other elemental regions. Harbinger A Harbinger dragon is named by Minstri to signify an event of great significance to the Clan. When a Harbinger is Exalted, it takes to the goddess not only its own strength but also the weight of the defining event under which it was born. The first dragon named Harbinger was the first son of Otreus, and the first dragon born the clan after the Return. It has been a tradition for the firstborn dragon to new parents in the clan to be named Harbinger and join the Exalted to signal the strength of all their progeny. This tradition is not always adhered to, however. |
