Aero

The Swarm, a massive host of mirrors devoted to the Shadowbinder, laid around the forum. Some were sinking into the murky goop that filled the center and seeped down the walls, others fighting with each other scrabbling across the fallen pillars, and down the sides. The swarm is a swelling mass of mirrors from every flight, many came to the darkness as orphans or seeking refuge from the light. They found welcoming arms and a goddess with a task. To dominate her darkness unforgiving and unrelenting; they became her eyes, her ears, her teeth and her claws, they roam the darkness and they enforce her will. Unlike the mimicking nocturnes the Swarm is a silent powerful predator for their goddess.

And born among them, were new ones. Special ones, they crawled from the Obscured Crescent itself. Different, blessed by the goddess, dark beautiful mirrors dripping with the Shadowbinder’s liquid shadow, or covered in crystallized shadows. They shook off the excess fluid and found their place among the other swarm members as the pups followed, barely out of the Obscured Crescent before they were tumbling over one another chewing and snapping hissing and playing. As they tumbled into the Swarm’s current leader they paused. Glancing up with big purple eyes, one of them gave a little screech. As the orange female shifted leaning down she sniffed the pups. Before snorting at them and the babies were sent into a tizzy of sneezes and shaking their little heads and then rolling as the leader pushed them with her nose sending the bundle of tangled limbs rolling away towards another Mirror who gave them a playful hiss and acted as if he were to lunge at them.

The babies hissed at him before running away hiding under the pink wings of a fourth Mirror that snickered at them as his mate nipped a little tail sticking out from under the back of the wings and the pup yelped before turning into a lick from the female.
A warm welcome indeed to the first of a new species…
