Beauty, a Poem by Meadowtouch / ixris wrote:
Will you be satisfied
By calloused hands
And weary smiles
And a mind that fills
With twists of wire
Crafted to delicate
Links of chain
As I am satisfied
By chime-like laughter
And eyes like cut
Emeralds
Of highest clarity
And a suppleness of form
That puts all
My best filigree
To shame?

How can I compete
By manufactured means
With the grace
That was gifted
To you?

Oh, but take my hand
And feel my pulse
Jump
As those flashing emeralds
Turn their gaze
Upon me

I have but my two hands
To offer you
And all the gifts
That were given them

It does not seem
Near enough
And yet
You regard me kindly
And smile
30385476.png- - Frangelico
By Disillusionist

Frangelico was born into a clan of armorers, and from a young age he showed a talent for weaponsmithing. The clan was very pleased, though Frangelico himself was not -- he abhorred conflict, and weapons and armor, even during peacetime, are always associated with warfare.

He had another name then, but he changed it to the one he now has, for his true passion was and still is the creation of beautiful garments. His armor is praised by dragons for its lightness and strength, his created apparel less so, for he tends to be clumsy with a needle and scissors.

Nonetheless, he will keep trying. He longs for a day when there will be no more need for armor and weaponry -- just parties and good times, all year round.

"I still remember the day these talons first clasped around gold filigree. It was everything I'd ever dreamed, metals light enough to dance in, but strong enough they didn't come apart in my sharp claws. It was like, a perfect moment. Everything lit up. This- certainty swept over me, when that moment came, like falling in love- the knowledge that this- this was what I had been looking for. Lace, filigree, you name it- all, made of gold. Precious metals folded paper-thin. The future was light, and bright, and full of hope."

Portobello, Mentor
By Catkinstarchild
Frangelico is an artisan, a craftsman, a tinkerer and a creator. He can turn his hand to most things, from stonemasonry to woodwork, alchemy to jewellery-making, and anything he touches, he seems to be able to transform into something beautiful. Bard nicknamed him 'Midas', but what he touches doesn't turn into gold- more often than not, it just stays the same, only smudged with dirt of some kind, because he's always wrist-deep in some project or another and hasn't time for niceties like stopping to make sure his nails are soot-free.
His work is extremely sought-after; his deft fingers can rival any fae's in finesse, his hammer swing can match a snapper's heft, and his filigree work on arms and armor alike are enough to send mastercraftsmen to tears. It is his work with jewellery, however, which has earned him the highest accolades, and which bring dragons from miles around when he holds an exhibition to sell off his work. He would be reluctant to ask for more than the price of the materials, but mostly dragons fall over one another to demand to be able to pay him more and more treasure in exchange for one of his masterpieces. He makes sure no dragon ever leaves his exhibitions empty-handed, though, and always has a pouch full of small rings or finely shaped insects made from spun gold and glass, and he gives them out willingly to anyone who looks wishfully downcast at the prices of his goods in the store.
It was his natural talent that led him out of poverty and into a comfortable existence, saved from the ranks of exaltation by a passing tradesperson who recognised his value at once. However moderately selfish his motives, Portobello the mostly-reformed highwayman antiques dealer is still a trusted friend and confidant to the young Imperial, who happily works on all restoration pieces or keyless lock mechanisms which the nocturne 'acquires', all the while talking about everything on his mind and heart while Portobello nods and gives as sage advice as the old charlatan can manage.

Frangelico has fallen recently, hopelessly, in love with the skydancer, Evensong- he takes every opportunity to wander past when her and her brother are practising their dance routines, on the pretense of looking for 'materials' for some project or another. He has never missed a single performance, no matter how far he had to travel to get there and back for his work. The day he met Evensong, he was freshly moved in to the jewelsmith's forge in the marketplace, and had just left looking for some more coal, when he happened across the practise glade in which Evensong and Jeran were dancing. He stood, mesmerised, in the shrubs nearby, not daring interrupt- but Evensong caught sight of him in mid-step, and faltered out of surprise- her elegant silks turning a knot around her and sending her sprawling to the ground. He rushed over, helping her up automatically- but when he let go, he realized he'd left sooty fingerprints behind. She laughed, though, her hide golden in the sunlight and her eyes glinting like rubies, and they were fast friends ever since.
