The pearlcatcher's tone is sweet and smooth, honey to his customers' ears, though his distrusting gaze remains fixed on them as they explore the ship-turned-emporium. A handsome creature, Cidd is adorned with intricate tattoos and gleaming gold jewelry. Clearly keen on keeping up appearances, the male is as vain as he is charismatic. He even abandoned his pearl in favor of his artifacts. Bartering is his favorite pastime. It is something like a chess game to him, a butting of strategy and wordplay, and the challenge is satisfying, even when the customer manages to win him over. (Losing the customer altogether is less satisfying.) Though he will attempt to oversell his wares, he is not a scam artist and sees himself as being above that. He says nothing but the truth about his items; if something is not solid gold, he will not say so. Formerly, Cidd was a traveling merchant who wandered across the territories, bartering and schmoozing and collecting new goods. In some cases, he collected his own wares; in others, he sold or traded for them. But after many close calls (and piles of lost treasure) due to bandits, it seemed wise to settle with a clan. Baklajan's appearance and temperament scared him, but the setup of paying for his own protection worked well for him, so he established himself in the Oceanarium's Floating Market. The Sea of a Thousand Currents makes for an excellent hunting ground for valuable collectibles--though he employs others to do the diving for him. Most of the items offered are decorative and grandiose, and seldom are they especially practical. Jewelry is a specialty of his. As such, there are some items in his collection that he has difficulty parting with, particularly some jewelry items. True to the nature of dragonkind, he enjoys hoarding gold, but he also savors hoarding particularly beautiful wares. He is not desperate for gold (as he is a frugal creature), and so he deems it acceptable to hold onto a few of his pieces, at least for a while... In some cases, he may accidentally pick up an... atypical piece of decor. A nippy little golden clock, in particular, has taken a liking to him. |
