Sapling - The Researcher


Sapling is an energetic fae with an appetite for knowledge. He soaks up information about nature and his current goal is to catalog the plants that survive in the Shattered Plain. He has various plants growing on him, vines and leaves cover his body and spiral around him. His work has led him across Sornieth, but he has found a home near the Pillar.

"What have you found today?" A voice interrupted him, causing Sapling to jump. He whirled around to see Raal, the medic, peering down at him through a pair of polished lenses.
"W-well," he stammered, "I have found a possible cure to the spore-spread disease. This kind of mushroom can be introduced in small amounts to help develop immunity to the disease and I think it may just work. I know the dragon in your den is beyond all other forms of help, so perhaps we could try-"
"Sapling, I will not give treatment as new and unknown as this to a stranger I do not know the name of," Raal insisted. Sapling's frills sunk down as he nodded his understanding. Then, peering up from below his hood, his eyes seemed to widen.
"I think I have an idea. Remember those new herbs we found?"
"Yes, but we can't use them for anything."
"We can, though, by extracting the oils! If they do belong to the same classification as the ones you already use-"
"-then I can use it to improve other treatments in a similar way! Sapling, you are wonderful! I'll get to it right away."
"Thanks, Raal, and I'll just... Look at this mushroom some more I suppose." Sapling turned back to his book, his long and nimble fingers sketching a diagram.
"One more thing, Sapling." Raal turned back, her eyes swirling with hope. "Your mushroom idea could work. Bring me some tomorrow morning, please."
Sapling waited for her to leave before jumping in excitement, his wings picking him up and carrying him to the higher shelves in the cave where he kept jars of supplies. He finally had a chance to prove his studies were worth something! Grabbing a knife and a mushroom, he sat down at the table and tugged down his hood, the leaves around him rustling excitedly.
He had a real, wonderful, and opportunistic job to do- He would not let his friend down.
