The future isn't always as bright as it seems, but to give hope where only darkness lies in wait is another kind of cruelty (and kindness) altogether.

Irina believed strongly in two things: Hope and Tomorrow. Without them, dragons had nothing to live for. So she inspired dragons, young and old, small and large, ugly and beautiful, rich and poor. She looked at the future and picked out a good future. Not the best one, for most dragons were not so foolish as to believe that everything turned out for the best, but a realistically beautiful, hopeful, good future. She couldn't hope but feel like a liar sometimes, watching as they left her with heads held high and the belief that things would be better. Not everyone could have a good life. Irina knew that better than most.
