Nyx

Born from Chaos, Nyx is the ancient Goddess of Night and Darkness. She has been hidden for millenia, preferring to watch the world pass her by and history as it unfolds before her. Many believe in her existence, though, and she doesn't mind worship. One thing she will not and has never tolerated is acts of evil done in her name. Some seem to believe that as a deity of darkness, she has a lust for evil, but this view is mistaken. It goes directly against her very nature.

Although she has crossed paths with Thanatos many times, he hasn't noticed. Nyx has watched him carefully for signs of malice; she would have to interfere with his actions if he had any. However, after observing him for some time, she came to the conclusion that he had no evil intent, and she allowed him to continue going his way. However, she did not truly get to know the "real" Thanatos until she got close to his brother, Hypnos.

While she was basking in the nighttime air, moonlight shining off her glimmering scales, Hypnos appeared beside her and settled near. Nyx didn't mind sharing the cliffside with him in silence. In mere hours, the two parted ways. She thought that was the last she would see of that stranger, but she had another thing coming. As she went about her daily business, she would sometimes glimpse him in the background of the scenery, here and there. The appearances were occasional, at first, but they quickly became more frequent. Soon thereafter, she started seeing Hypnos in her dreams.

Intrigued by her strange dreams, she went looking for him. It wasn't hard to find him; he had a unique aura to him. Hypnos was rather charming in his own way, and he made it clear that he was smitten. He even admitted to her later that he had started crushing on her the night they had met. Once they had started courting, he and Nyx became inseparable. He was the best mate any dragon could ask for. They were devoted only to each other... right up until Hypnos's murder.

His death had left Nyx feeling like a hollow shell of herself; a horrific scar marred her soul. Each day passed like any other: slow, painful, lonely. Whenever she wasn't mourning his loss, she contemplated and planned. She wanted—no, she needed to find his murderer. It was not long before Thanatos came to her, hearing of the news of his brother's death. As it turns out, Thanatos's thirst for revenge was just as powerful and insatiable as Nyx's. The rage over the loss of one they both loved kept them both on the hunt long after most would have given up.

As they moved through life through the years, Nyx noticed that Thanatos shared many of Hypnos's qualities. He adamantly denied her claims whenever she would bring them up. It took some time, but after many, many bonding talks, she was able to put together what had occurred in his past to make him the way he was. She shared her sympathy with him and started healing his broken heart, without even realizing Thanatos was doing the same for her.

They have managed to form a family after spending so long together, one that they will fight tooth and claw to protect.
