Matricide has a rank which shifts frequently and dangerously. Though she has for now settled into the position of lead hunter, those around her, whether they outrank her or not would do well to respect her. She first joined the clan as assistant and mate to Sahko. Over time her affiliation with the Machine Faction created a rift between them. Sahko's dislike for the Machine Faction made working with him nearly impossible, so Matricide set about to find other work in the clan. She apprenticed under Eyun for a time, keen on field work, and thought working with him might help her. She was correct, but the benefits were hers alone, as Eyun suffered an unfortunate accident and departed the clan soon after Matricide acquired sufficient proficiency in the craft from him. There are some rumors that his departure was engineered by Matricide, as a higher rank as a clan hunter aids both her work and puts her in a superior position to her former master. It also elevates the influence of the Machine Faction itself. Those rumors seemed to gain more credence with the fate of Zeravica, who was the leader of the clan's hunters until Matricide intervened and with the help of Izcili revealed her to be weak and unfit for that duty. Since then matricide has gained even more influence among the hunters in the clan. |

For the actual duties of hunting, she makes liberal use of mechanical traps and clever planning for her work. She is able to capture and kill as much game as a whole pack of mirror hunters with her devious devices. Other members of the clan have come to understand her skills as an engineer of more than machines as well, and she was instrumental in helping Iejir remove his father as leader of the Machine Faction. |

Zervica had turned away from Eideif to Roden, whose high rank in the clan was one of his many appealing qualities. This proved to be her eventual downfall, as this behavior angered the scavenger Izcili, who loved Eideif dearly and provided the scheming Matricide with the tools to usurp the clan's foremost hunter. When Lir's mate, Scrith departed the clan, the ruby pearl catcher was burdened with heavy and shattered heart. Matricide, who knew that Lir was beautiful, saw an opportunity. She went to Izcili and convinced the Ridgeback to help her remove Zeravica. Zera did not trust Matricide, who had already engineered the removal of her previous mentor, Eyun, but Izcili's hatred was unknown. Izcili suggested Zera offer comfort and courtship to Lir, and it really took very little convincing. Of course, infidelity to Roden would not have been enough to have her punished or removed. Roden wasn't the sort to care much about such matters, but he did care about slights to his pride. Izcili suggested to him that Zera preferred Lir, and only remained at his side to make use of his rank, as Lir had none. The perceived insult was enough to turn Roden against her, and though he yet made no action, Zera sensed he was unhappy with her. |

During this time, Matricide was hard at work securing the final pieces of Zera's downfall. Besides Zera there were no fire dragons in the clan, and Zera wasn't a true fire dragon. Matricide searched for and secured an ally fire dragon, Calcifer, assuring that Calcifer could earn a place in their clan by helping her. Matricide then went to Zera and told her that it seemed to her that Roden had replaced her, and chosen another dragon as his mate. Zera would not have believed this had she not already had suspicions on the matter due to his grumpiness. Worse, her courtship with Lir was not going well. He had turned to her readily enough in his hurt but now seemed to be having second thoughts. It greatly agitated her to think she might lose both her mates. What Matricide said was not true, of course. Calcifer was at that time merely interviewing with the Steward for entry into the clan. Distraught, Zera rushed to find Roden speaking with Calcifer, and upon seeing that Calcifer was a fire dragon, she was incensed and driven into a fury. She attacked the newcomer immediately. |

Calcifer, being far larger than Zera, not to mention more elementally powerful, as she did not suffer the dissonance of energies which Zera did, beat the hunter easily. The simple act of dominance securing Calcifer's role as lead hunter, and ruining Zera's name in that clan. So quickly Zera left that place, that many did not realize for days that she had even gone. It was as if she had vanished. |
