Biography
| BETELGEUSE | [♫] Event Horizon
{ Head Witch | He/Him | Gay } “One day he will die,” they said, “and consume us all.” They thought he was a star, as old as the universe, who had fallen to earth in mortal form seeking peace in the twilight of his life. Soon, they believed, he would fade, his makeshift body would wither and decay. Then, then he would draw all of dragonkind into the blackness he left behind, his gravity so great that nothing, not even light, could escape its pull. He would devour Sornieth, and its people, and the Shade, and the Eleven, and he would be reborn as an eater of worlds. They thought he was a star, because he was different. He looked at them with wisdom a child so young should not have possessed, eyes that pierced even the sturdiest soul. As he grew, he was drawn evermore to the heavens; he saw in them limitless potential and chased them with a lovesick passion. He did not speak, only observed, only pined for what he could not have, and his clanmates became convinced that he was an ancient being trapped within a young and mortal body. “He is a star,” they whispered, “and stars die.” So they sought to confine him, to squeeze him down to nothing, a mere pinprick of light. Using magic, they stole his power from him, siphoning it into the machines which held him captive. The walls of his cell closed in on him day after day, until he could no longer move. His scales cracked. His wings atrophied. His pearl pressed against him painfully, an unbearable reminder of a time when he had known freedom. Then he did as they’d said he would: he crushed them all to dust beneath the weight of his sorrow. On that day, Betelgeuse earned the title of Cataclysm. Grief-stricken, he wandered far from the ruins of his homeland, until he happened upon a small group of Light dragons, who had only just begun to build their clan. He shied away from their founder at first when they called to him, but the infinite cosmos swirling in their tangle of orchid locks soothed his wary heart. If he was a black hole, then they were yet a star, radiant, a beacon to his wayward soul. He went to them and took their hand, basking in the light of their warm and loving smile. Dreamweaver was the first being to ever accept him as he was, and so he swore fealty to them, becoming the clan’s head witch. Though the trauma of his upbringing has left him reclusive and distrusting, he is respected among his clanmates, looked to as an authority on magic and its theories. Some still fear his awesome power, but others see it as a source of strength. code by Diamondbacked |
