Dragonet years
He was discovered in a similar way to Murcie, but a few years later, after Murcie had finally grown up.
As a child, he was always very reclusive; he didn't like to speak with strangers, preferring to stay close to his adoptive mother, and would practically shun the other dragonets when they completed missions; He would let them know that he thought they were stupid, and that he also thought he was better than them.
Of course, he was very, very intelligent. Very quiet, very snobbish, but very, VERY intelligent. In a way, it made him feel entitled to being better than anyone else.
However, he had never shaken the feeling that he didn't belong in the Vigil. He was found under accidental circumstances, just like his counterpart, Murcie. He envied the ease at which she took to the Vigil, helping out where she could, flourishing and nurturing her talent. He had never felt a familial bond with the others, he felt as though there was SOMETHING out there, as if he was missing something vital.
He also felt very useless, even if he would never admit it to himself. He was smart, sure, but they already had a PLETHORA of resident braniacs on board, with marvellous talents to boot. He had nothing. Due to this, he isolated himself from others, fearful of others' discovery of his self-percieved uselessness.
He even tried- in secret- his claw at painting, to no avail. He tried out in the medical field, but never actually cared much for medecine and helping others, and he knew it'd be a bad idea to have someone indifferent to the well-being of others watching over that exact thing. He tried out for the militia, but was cursed with having very noodle-y arms and a low exertion tolerance. For all of his feelings pertaining to feeling out of place in the Blue Vigil, he yearned for a purpose, ached for a chance to feel like he belonged.
He decided that, when the time came, he would set out on a journey of self-understanding and inflection, isolating himself for a hundred years and- if he didn't find a purpose before then, he would never return to the Blue Vigil.

Job Description
He thinks he has the funnest job in the Vigil- many would say that was true of their own job, but objectively, his job is pretty fun and relatively stress free. Don't let him catch you saying it's easy though- you'd never hear the end of it.
What is he? Why, he's a musician. And a d*mn good one at that. During his time in isolation, he had mastered every worldly instrument at his disposal, and when he gets to playing, it's as if every feeling and sentiment that he had never been able to express manifest themselves as pure, liquid sound. He pours his heart and soul into his pieces, and the flotilla is rarely silent- there is always gilded sound floating out from the Philharmonic Antechamber.
The strums of an acoustic guitar can be heard floating over the chatter in the cafe areas, or a roaring trumpet salsa can be heard undercutting the clanging and bustle of the daily ship maintenance. The playful, bouncing notes of a contrabass give the late night crowd something to sway their hips to, and, in the dark of night, when the world seems to be holding it's breath, the plaintive wail of a violing, or the tearful melody of plinking piano keys cuts through the silence.
The ship is never quiet.

Bio
Chopin is a rather secretive, quiet fellow, when it comes to social encounters. Which, unfortunately, is bound to happen when you live on a ship in the middle of the ocean, and the inhabitants are devoted in some way, shape or form to rescue or help out those in need. He isn't against helping out those in need, but he is against having to speak to them. In Murcie's opinion, he looks a bit like a sour cat in a room full of boisterous children, slinking against the walls and shooting nasty glares at anyone who comes near.
This isn't to say he's rude. He's very polite and well spoken, he just doesn't like being in crowds very much, and would much rather stay in his cozy little apartment writing music. Either there, or beneath the waves.
He finds the ambient sounds of the sea, as well as the movements of the sea life- all swaying and moving to what appeared to be a universal tempo that dictates a watery orchestra, calming, and even inspirational. He'll come back after a day or so with sea salt crusting his normally immaculate black scales, and a twinkle in his normally harsh eyes.
Speaking of normally harsh eyes, when people say that eyes are the windows to the soul, they clearly haven't met Chopin. While he may be a bit distant or even seem a bit bitter, he is known to play for newly rescued refugees and those suffering from illness or injury who have been on their ship for longer than others. They usually all come to the Philharmonic, but he always listens to their personal requests, and will come at night to play them their desired piece.

Hobbies
As previously stated, he loves to play music, whichm luckily for him, is a rather fun occupation. He also makes an extra buck on the side whenever they make landing by playing in bars or alongside street performers. A magical change overcomes him; he goes from some moody guy with a permanent scowl to a grinning, bouncing player that can sing and dance with the best of them.
He also has a penchant for writing music, but only whenever the inspiration strikes him; he can leave a project for weeks until he gets the perfect inspiration. When he does, he drops everything he's presently occupied with and barrels right back into his study, not to emerge for the next few hours.
He also has a thing for whiling hours away underwater like a salty recluse.

Likes
Playing music, making a breakthrough in a project, cheering others up with his music, listening to the sounds of the sea, fine silver baubles and jewelry, polished instruments, ample ampitheaters, the smell of sheet music, his study, nights with open skies, breaking a heavy silence, bitter teas, smart and well-mannered company, and black licorice.

Dislikes
Sweet foods, bland background noise (Shipwork, silverware clinking, idle conversation that you can hear but can't quite make out, etc.), being spoken to when he is quite CLEARLY showing disinterest in continuing a converstaion, heavy socialising, raucous dragonets, tarnished instruments, messy studios, days when the sun is oppressively BRIGHT and HOT, ill-mannered individuals, loud and boisterous dragons and/or comportance, and choppy-waved days at sea.
