Nightwalker is another enigma the monastery hasn't quite cracked, nor are they sure they want to, especially with the questionable company he keeps. He never provided a name; "Nightwalker" proves time and time again to be an apt nickname, as he's never seen during the day, though is more than active during the night. Some believe him to be hired by the abbess, Echo, though there has been no confirmation; rumors abound of his occupation being that of a bounty hunter, particularly with his unwillingness to set any permanent roots within the monastery's walls, proving more than content staying within the tavern's few rooms, paying above going market rate to keep it under reserve. They believe he serves as a layer of defense for the lair, and it is for that reason people believe Echo hired him; she had a deep-seated fear, though never properly expressed, for the Shade, after the loss of the Hewn City. These rumors regarding his occupation mention his specializations resting in the supernatural and unnatural, and it is for this reason most believe he's a ward incase the Shade ever surface once more. Though, even with these rumors and suspicions suggesting his intentions to be good, it does not put most to ease in his presence. Many find themselves perturbed within his presence, experiencing further apprehension and anxiety with his piercing gaze despite his vague attempts at kindness. Yet, thus far, he's proved to be of no danger, nor problem, to the monastery; perhaps the residents can eventually find themselves at peace with him, even if many wonder if he's even actually a dragon or, for that matter, alive. |
