When Solstice was born, his parents knew there was something special about him. He was the only one to survive the bitter cold of that winter and as such, was the only hatchling from his nest. They also knew something was wrong as they raised him. He would always draw in the cold and often when he walked, trails of ice would be left behind him. Of course his mother, Aurora was dragon filled with powerful ice magic, but she was wiser and more controlled, while his power was still out of control since he was young and did not understand. Solstice parents did their best however to raise him like normal children. It was more so his father, Aubin that insisted upon it, while Aurora tried to persuade him to raise him as the mage he was supposedly meant to be. Unlike his mother, who was a bit cold and callus at first, his father, a kindly doctor, was more warm and friendly despite appearing to be made out of ice itself. It wasn't until Solstice was older that he himself realized his differences. This was mainly as other people started to point it out to him. Other hatchlings complained the air got colder around him, some slipped and fell on his ice trails. And upon one occasion he had caused slight hypothermia on a hug. Fortunately his father was there to give the patient a dose of maidens blush, and that issue was solved, but a new one began in the mind of Solstice. While he had his mother's power, he did not have her mental constitution and thus could not endure the intense training she had tried to put him through in an effort to understand his power. Instead, Solstice himself decided to run away, as he was more afraid of hurting others and being a burden. |
