Neptune's nest was his parents last, a nest of quintuplets, and he was the last to hatch, and the smallest. Well, not the smallest, in fact, he was quite large, but he was the weakest. When his parents brought back things like bugs for the hatchlings to practice killing, Neptune could never stand to do it. His family disowned him, except for his older sister, Current. Current taught Neptune how to fight, and she kept her parents from exalting him. And then one day, while Current was training in the coli, she missed a crucial attack, and the team lost. This wouldn't normally be a big deal, but it for some reason enraged Current's and Neptune's father, and he exalt Current. Neptune was devastated. His only friend had been lost, and he was now alone. Neptune thought about exalting himself so he could be with Current, but someone convinced him not to. Amethyst was not from the tribe, her egg had been hatched around the time Neptune hatched, though they had never really talked before. But Amethyst took pity on Neptune and she talked to him. Soon they became friends, and over time, Neptune developed stronger feelings for Amethyst. One day, Amethyst decided to go to the Crystalpine Reaches and start her own tribe. The day before amethyst was to leave, Neptune confessed his feeling to her and ask if he could join her as her mate. Amethyst gladly excepted and they now have a thriving tribe in the CrystalPine Reaches.
