△▼△ Demon | King | Monster •• ━━━━━━━━━━━━━ ━━━━━━━━━━━━━ ••
Mesopotamian mythology: The "king of sunset". Portrayed in hymns and myths as a god of war and pestilence, Nergal seems to represent the sun of noontime and of the summer solstice that brings destruction. Over time he developed from a war god to a god of the underworld as the deity who presides over the netherworld, and who stands at the head of the special pantheon assigned to the government of the dead. Nergal's fiery aspect appears in names or epithets such as "the burner", "the raging king" and "the furious one".
A demonic monster who is hard to control and only obeys the two demi-goddesses Ereshkigal, his master, and Satet, an old friend. It is said that Nergal fell from heaven, spinning tales of magic and sin. But the truth lies beyond the rumors: Nergal rose up out of the earth and the underworld centuries ago. At first he wasn't able to stay on the surface and in the sunlight, but he adapted himself quickly to his new surroundings, while his intelligence and courage grew with every day. He started to attack large parts of the dragonworld, trying to turn this world into the underworld as well, ruling over the weak. It was Satet who stopped him, when he tried to attack the Hidden Sanctum, seeing a deep potential in his abilities. She knew that Nergal would fall for the darkness completely if he falls under the reign of "the God", so she entrusted him to the Krypta cult under Ereshkigal's control, where Nergal found his place, duty, and destiny. All members of the Hidden Sanctum assumed the threat was over - but they were wrong. After centuries of silence the demonic powers and intentions of Nergal returned, and he started a revolution against "the Apeiron", supported by "the God" who wanted to use Nergal's powers for his own purposes. Ereshkigal asked Satet for help, who refused it, as "the God" was keeping her daughter Ruth as a hostage. Hate, darkness, and negation spread across the clan, when Ereshkigal and "the Apeiron" were finally able to take Nergal's eyesight and seal a part of his furious and malign powers into a holy hatchet artifact. Blind and weakened Nergal became a shadow of his former self. |
