Biography
ILLYEN

Chieftan / Leader
Leadership is the capacity to translate vision into reality.
A long time ago, a small clan existed made up strictly of only Arcane dragons, native to the Starfall Isles. This clan chose to hate dragons of all other variety and they had strict laws that left only a small amount of room for freedom among the clan members. Things such as having a certain amount of hatchlings, leaving the Isles, choosing your own mate, and having friends outside of the clan were all forbidden. Parents were harsh on their hatchlings, teaching them to unquestioningly follow the leaders of the clan and to keep quiet and obedient - like a good dragon would.
But, not all in the clan were so content to just be "a good dragon."
Illyen, barely out of her hatchling stage, had much bigger dreams and visions in mind, and those dreams nearly cost her her life. The leaders of her clan acted out against her, threatening to brainwash her - or worse - if she continued to "act out" with her ideals. Illyen was furious with the leaders and ultimately decided to leave the clan - an offense punishable by death.
In the dark of night, when all but the night security guards had drifted to sleep, Illyen fled as quickly as she could. The guards had set off the alarms and charged after her to drag her back. Looking back on it today, they probably would have succeeded if another young dragon named Iari, a boy who was the son of one of the leaders, hadn't come to rescue her. Together, the two struggled against the guards and they fled.
For many months, the two left the Starfall Isles entirely and traversed aimlessly through the known lands. They encountered many different clans, many different ideals, many different kinds of dragons. They charged head-strong through adventures and they fearlessly took on life's challenges. But, when news had reached them that the clan they used to belong to had been destroyed - its remaining members scattered to the four winds - Illyen proposed to return to their old home.
With the help of Iari and some friends the two had picked up on their adventures, the young dragons made their way back to the Crystalpine Reaches, where their old clan had nested. Illyen felt no nostalgia returning to the deserted nest. The question, then, was what to do next? But, her loyal friends answered that question for her:
Begin anew.
Thus, it was decided. Illyen would start her own clan - one that was welcome to dragons of all different backgrounds. She decided to make a place that anyone could call home. A place where people could soar high as the sky and still have roots in the ground. This would be, perhaps, her most exciting adventure, yet.
Illyen is a very outgoing dragon who, by nature, loves to reach for the stars - both figuritively and literally. Though she relies heavily on Iari's knowledge and intuition, Illyen actually has issues relying on others and enjoys doing things on her own, sometimes to a fault. She tends to be quite headstrong, which often causes her to be scolded by her childhood friend, but it's that very same personality that also inspires and draws people to her.
Illyen's kindness knows no bounds. Even though she'd rather be soaring through the sky or burying herself in books, there's no doubt in anyone's mind that she'd drop everything in a flash to help out someone in need - even if they were nothing more than a stranger.
Her best quality, according to those in her clan, is her knack for taking care of others. Many dragons have commented that she'd be a great mother - despite not yet having a mate of her own. She always takes care of her clan first, before ever caring for herself. In her book, it's her duty to carve a path for those who follow her, so that one day they may be wonderful leaders of their very own.
Iari is technically Illyen's childhood friend. While they never spoke to each other during their time in the clan they were born to, they grew up in close quarters and become very fast best friends after she'd fled the Isles with him. Illyen made Iari her adviser after establishing her clan and trusts his insight more than anyone else's. |
Antigone was one of the first friends Illyen and Iari made. Upon first meeting, Antigone was out on an adventure of one of her own. Hailing from an Arcanist clan, she'd apparently never seen outside of her home and decided to do some travelling to learn about other cultures. She trained Illyen how to fight and defend herself and become her Guard Captain when the older dragon joined Illyen's clan. |
Illyen found Nekaia when she was still very young. At such a young age, the Coatl was already very heavily studying magic and healing. While Illyen is more-than-sure that Nekaia is closer to Antigone than to anyone else, she believes the young healer to be one of her best friends and almost like a sister. Illyen gave her the honour of being the clan's High Priestess when she created the clan - an honour that embarrased Nekaia, who then proceeded to talk Illyen into a more sensible name... like, "Healer." |
