Biography
T I F F A N Y
“Never be in a hurry; do everything quietly and in a calm spirit.”
Tiffany is just… Tiffany. She’s had a bit of a rough time of it. She was never very bright, even though her nest was glowing with the heat of the Flamecaller. She was never very sure-footed, even though she spent her early days playing on the molten mountains over the Furnace. However, she never quite grew up like her brothers and sisters. Tiffany is a bit mentally slow, trips over her own feet, and only infrequently understands what the others around her are talking about, perhaps even especially if they are talking about her. One thing is for certain, though: Tiffany has a glow all her own. There was never a nicer, friendlier, happier dragon. Upon reaching the clan she now lives in, it was unclear whether she would find a permanent place there. Of course, this was before she met her mate, Lloyd. She caught his heart with her simple happiness, despite her awareness that when the other dragons came in a circle together to whisper and snicker, it was usually on account of her. She knows she’s different, strange maybe, but she can’t really do much about it. She doesn’t know what is different about her. Tiffany is just Tiffany. She figures she wouldn’t fit in with them, anyway. She doesn’t know how to gossip or say anything less than nice about other dragons. She really wouldn’t want to be like them even if it meant she could be smarter or more graceful. Her life changed when she met Lloyd. Lloyd won’t hear anything disparaging about Tiffany, and never has anything bad to say about her. After all, everything about her is wonderful. Tiffany makes herself useful, though whether it is actually useful depends on the dragon asked, as the lair decorator. She drapes every doorway and table in flowers and makes beautiful flower arrangements like no dragon has ever seen. Lloyd loves them most of all. Even though Tiffany has been trying her whole life, she has never been much of a Fire dragon. She’s not good with her claws like other Fire dragons. She has no aspirations to practicality. She only has a warm hearth to invite friends to sit near on cool nights. And once a dragon gets to know her, gives her a chance, she will be a friend forever. She can’t betray, can’t hurt. Betrayed or hurt herself, she’ll forgive. Tiffany is Tiffany. --- Tiffany put the finishing touch on the doorway to her home with the purest white daisy. It wouldn’t last but a day, but beauty for a day was better than none at all. Even though it was night… and no one would see it but Tiffany and Lloyd, probably. The bloom would be withered and wilted by tomorrow morning when everyone else was awake, most likely. Maybe she should have waited until morning to decorate their nest... She was so deep in thought that she didn’t notice Lloyd walk up behind her. “Hello, what’s this?” he wondered, sounding pleased. Tiffany smiled at him, pointing at the daisy she’d just placed in particular. “It’s spring, so I thought that we could use some decoration.” She hesitated a moment, realizing that one of those thoughts wasn’t really connected to the other, even though she’d said it like they were. Lloyd still smiled. “It’s lovely.” He turned his nose up to the daisy and inhaled. “Smells like spring, indeed.” Tiffany nodded happily, but then remembered that the daisy wasn’t going to last. She must have frowned or something, because Lloyd frowned, too. “What’s wrong, dear?” he asked her. Tiffany pressed one of the leaves of her wreath between her fingers, smooth and stiff for the moment. Until it wilted. “It won’t last forever,” she sighed. “No. I suppose not.” Lloyd looked at the wreath she’d made, and then sat next to her, his eyes still on the decoration. “But nothing does, does it?” Tiffany looked at him sideways. “I don’t know.” Lloyd chuckled. “Alright, I can think of one thing that lasts.” He still kept his eyes on wreath like it was going to disappear. And maybe it was. Tiffany leaned up against him happily and watched, too. It might disappear. It might not last until morning. But at least Lloyd would be here tomorrow. And she’d still love him as much then as she did now. There were a few things that would last.
