mate --A mighty king who had everything but through several things ranging from illnesses, loss of limb, going off to war, revolt and mental breakdowns, has been stripped of his title and rank and is now a wandering mercenary no one knows the name of as he introduces himself with a new name every time... Resurrection has always been a nasty practice that many claim to have mastered. But in this dragon's many, many experiences, he has only seen one being to possess the true, untainted gift of bringing a soul back from the Deities. He is like a ghost as Kuan remembers which tells him that this being, whoever they may be, is likely either a figment of his imagination or truly something not of this world. This king's entire existence feels like one linear experience but in reality, he has died and been reborn through the ages. Whether or not Kuan is aware of this and simply ignores it is unknown. No one can blame him for not wanting to face the act that he is essentially immortal with nothing earthly to tether him to both reality and sanity. The first time he was killed, he died a fighting general in battle. The second, he was assassinated as a king. This life is the one he remembers most vividly and the one he holds onto strongest. He was loved, respected and revered. But he met and untimely end at the hand of someone he trusted. He can't quite recall who it was but he knows the knife in his throat was nothing compared to the pain in his chest knowing a dear friend had been conspiring against him. The second, he was the ruler of a small kingdom and simply succumbed to sickness as he lived in a very poorly-known area and access to powerful medicine and doctors of the time was daftly limited. It wasn't until possibly the fifth or sixth time Kuan was brought back that he regained the body he was born with and awoke in a land made of fire and lava. Immediately, he thought he had finally gotten the hellish end he deserved but as time passed, others came to join him in a lava-stone fortress that seemed to grow around him by the day. This was not damnation this was a purgatory the purpose of which is lost on him. Nonetheless, Kuan stays where he is, as there is nowhere else for him to go. And if he is honest with himself, being the head of a collection of powerful souls brings back a wholesome and liberating nostalgia that he'd spent eternity yearning. |
