Biography
_.__.__.__AMDIFFYN_.___._
QUEEN • LEADER • TRAITOR
|
"I know not if fate would have us live as one, or if by love's blind chance we've been bound..."
Akula's expression registered shock. Her eyes swept Amdiffyn's small body, taking in every quirk, searching for familiarity. Her father's posture was there, certainly, and yet... a somehow fae demeanor--a way of curling her tail just so, the wideness of her eyes... it was so vaguely reminiscent of Tarach, or perhaps Tarach's fae progeny. Without being aware of it, Akula's heart softened even as her terror grew. She knew what Tsoriken was trying to do, but this young skydancer, shy and sweet, had no way of understanding it. Perhaps Akula could put a stop to it all by simply loving this hatchling.
Finally, Akula dipped her head. Amdiffyn realized that her feathers were on end when the old mirror reached to draw her close, and swallowed to calm her trembling nerves.
"Don't be frightened, child. This is your home now. We'll all care for you."

~~~~~~~The QUEEN
The loyalty of the clan was a difficult thing to gain, and it wasn't helped by Tsoriken's escape, but Amdiffyn managed to sway the hearts of the Fletching dragons with sweeping new laws, increasing in strictness as they applied to higher and higher ranking government--herself, of course, most of all. The new Queen would be under the strictest supervision, all of her decisions backed by a Council of Four Suns. These Councillors would be chosen of all different flights and protect the interests of the political, economic, military, and social spheres individually. And, of course, Amdiffyn would be allowed only to marry either the royalty or heir to an entirely separate clan.
And then she fell in love with a dancer. An illegitimate, lowborn, beautiful dancer.
Even after all that had happened, Amdiffyn felt like a traitor as she watched her father dragged in the enormous contraption, thrashing and shrieking, all of his former dignity lost to rage. Even the young skydancer had blood on her claws from the battle he had waged on the palace, and she shook as she stood, Akula's warmth at her flank the only thing to reassure her. Before Amdiffyn had even had time to grow accustomed to the new clan, she had been whisked away to a strange new land; one where the ground blistered beneath her feet, and the air stunk of something that made the young skydancer shudder. There she had seen all manner of dragons who frightened her. Amdiffyn was allowed to wander the site where Tsoriken was gathering allies, but never too far. She feared what would happen if she tried to sneak away at night; after all, most of these dragons seemed to be nocturnal anyway. Eyes peeked out at her wherever she went, and none of them were friendly. She found herself seeking solace in her father, who smiled at her and told her what a future she had ahead of her as he petted her head. But he wasn't there to comfort her when Fletching dragons and their allies crashed into the camp, roaring and drumming fit to make the ground shake. Amdiffyn was captured alongside the alchemist boy--the rest seemed to disappear into the shadows or were felled by arrows, blades, or claws. Amdiffyn held her head high, as she had always seen her father do, as she was brought back to the palace she didn't know whether to call home. When it was in sight, her gaze was drawn to a familiar old mirror sitting at the front steps, craning her neck to look over the crowd. She ran to Amdiffyn's side and undid the ropes binding her wings to her body, glaring at the dragons who flanked her. Then she put a protective wing over the skydancer's shoulders and led her into the palace without another word. The skydancer was brought up to a room she had never seen before, but as she stepped inside she recognized it as the matriarch's chambers. They were simple enough, but shelves of valuable trinkets and crafts made with Tarach's touch betrayed that the rooms belonged to the mirror. She led Amdiffyn over to a bath that must have just been made; steam rose from the surface of the water. As the old mirror washed dirt and blood from Amdiffyn's fur, she spoke softly. "You are so beautiful," she sighed. "It's a pity you have your father's sly face." She looked at Amdiffyn and smiled tiredly. "Tarach and I have decided that the best course of action to stop this war and bloodshed is to step down as leaders of the Fletching Clan." Amdiffyn balked. "But clans need leadership at a time like this. Surely you don't mean to give the clan over to my father?" Akula shook her head and gave a rasping laugh. "No, child. We mean to give the clan over to you." |
