JUDGES INFORMATION
Instructions/Guidelines for judges use:
1. Remember that this is a speech competition, not a writing competition, even though writing is an intregal part of preparing a speech; imagine the speech being given on a stage or in a studio in front of an audience, which is you.
2. When evaluating the speech, you must ask yourself if you were entertained, persuaded, motivated, or informed about interesting and relevant news. If we add expository: informed about a topic of interest utilizing the visual aid(s).
3. Look at the character dragon as the speaker. Does the dragon help to set the stage for the speech being delivered.
4. Does the participant follow FR rules, honor the word limits, stay within the boundaries of FR, Arcane, or Starfall.
5. The rating system below is not an absolute instruction for you to follow, but it is there to provide some important guidelines to consider if you can’t decide which ranking placement to give the speech.
6. Speeches will advance to the next round based on their ranking.
7. Please inform Starlight18 or Argante if you feel you can not be remain unbiased in your judging.
Elimination/Advancement Rounds:
This competition will be judged in a series of elimination/advancement rounds. Each judge (probably 2 judges per event) will get up to 10 speeches in the first round and will be asked to rank the speeches 1 through 10. For example, the top (5) speeches will continue to the next round with new judges, who will be asked to go though the same process for those top (5) speeches. They will rank them 1 through (5) and the top (3) will go on to the next round with new judges who will rank the top (3) speeches. This will continue until only 3 speeches are left in each category. Some judges may end up evaluating speeches they have seen once before, but those will probably be ranked within a new group of speeches, so hopefully there won’t be too much bias.
When 3 speeches remain in each category, those speeches will be ranked in a Final for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place prizes. Additionally, each judge will have 1 opportunity to choose a speech not in the Final round which they want to give an Honorable Mention. These speeches will receive and Honorable Mention prize.

Ranking speeches:
1. One of the best ways to decide on placement is to read the first speech and then look at the rating system. Give it a minimum number from the number rating system. Additionally, the first speech will be ranked #1.
2. Read the next speech. Give it a minimum rating from the description below. Decide if you would rank this speech above or below the first speech read. If so, rank it #1, which pushes the first read speech to #2.
3. Read the third speech. Give it a minimum number from the rating system. Additionally, decide if it is better than both the previous speeches (in which case, it becomes ranked #1) or if it is not as good as either of them (where it would be ranked #3) or if it was better than #2, but not as good as #1, where then it would become ranked #2 and #2 would become ranked #3.
