AFTERSOUGHT is the most successful scrapper emporium in the County -- so much so that it has a kind of household name status to it, so well-known and relied-on that it's usually the first non-cuss word to pass anyone's teeth when machinery breaks down. The success of Aftersought is largely attributed to Sulaco and her dilligent, hardworking nature and it certainly is rarely, if ever, attributed to her husband, Scopuli. That isn't to say that Scopuli doesn't pull his own weight -- for surely he does, with that kind of smug self-congratulatory pride that only pearlcatchers seem able to muster -- it's just that he's a bit more of an acquired taste than his wife. He is overly and obviously self-absorbed, and prone to speaking his mind a bit too plainly for most palates. Still, he's tolerable enough, in large part because he keeps things tidy and efficient when it comes to running Aftersought's sales counter, and keeps the time-wasting chitchat down to the absolute minimum. The pair showed up in the County together, Sulaco dragging what most assumed to be a hunk of especially shiny scrap -- until the scrap opened its one functional eye and began to talk at anyone who got too close. The scrap turned out to be Scopuli, still unfinished from wherever he and Sulaco had come from. The leftovers from the subsequent mass of junk Sulaco acquired in order to finish Scopuli's chassis would eventually become the first few items for sale in Aftersought, and things just kind of spiralled from there. Scopuli is by turns loose-lipped and reticent about where the pair come from, depending on what day it is, though whenever he does flap his chrome-plated gums about their past, you can bet your life's earnings that he's telling some pure-bred lies. |
IMPRESSIONS
The epitome of the word refurbished: paint all but gone, welding seams crisscrossing his body like scars and holding together every possible gradation of metal plating from brand new to well used. What surface area you can see is etched with intricate filigree that'd put even a master jewelrysmith to shame. There's something self-conscious about the layers and layers of clothing, something that makes it more crypsis than fashion.
LEGEND
The Gilded Constructs were the result of Project Pneuma, a joint effort between the Descanso Enclave of the Shifting Expanse and the Parhelion Institute of the Sunbeam Ruins to create fully autonomous synthetic dragonoids. The project was alarmingly successful, resulting in a number of Constructs who were, with a little cosmetic tweaking, indistinguishable from their organic counterparts. The project was highly taboo and hotly contested by both groups from day one. Descanso valued the Constructs for their capacity to augment scientific exploration, while Parhelion focused on their martial applications. Both groups wrestled with the issue of creating even synthetic life, to say nothing of powering it with energy cores based on Pillar Shards. Ultimately these issues proved irreconcilable, and both groups agreed to terminate both the project and its creations. Scopuli was among the youngest generation of Constructs, so new he hadn't even been finished by the time the project was canceled. He didn't complain (much) when Sulaco tossed his half-a-chassis into a duffel bag and fled south. It is unknown if other Constructs escaped termination, or if Sulaco and Scopuli are all that remain.

RELATIONSHIPS
SULACO is Scopuli's wife and all-around helper. Scopuli puts on a cranky front around the organics, but anyone with audio sensors can hear his vocals turn buttery-soft when he says her name.JONESY is said to be Aftersought's all-seeing-eye-cat but really, she's Sulaco's cat. Scopuli senses a kind of kindred spirit in Jonesy -- or would, if he had what anyone would quantify as a spirit. Jonesy keeps an eye (she just has the one) out for thieves and con artists, and helps Scopuli come up with especially biting insults during slow hours. |
