AFTERSOUGHT is a scrapper emporium. The biggest in the County, point of fact -- and no, not because it's the only scrapper emporium around. Such emporiums spring up like weeds all over the Wasteland, and usually vanish about as quickly. Only Aftersought seems to have any real staying power.

Most folks might assume that's due to some aggressive mercantile espionage on the proprietors' part, but, fact is, Aftersought is just good at what it does. Its owner, Sulaco, is known for her level head and fair prices, not to mention her nigh-otherworldly strength and patience. She not only buys (and sells) smaller scrap from scavengers coming in out of the Wasteland, she'll also buy (and sell) bigger hunks of junk that are too cumbersome for their previous owners to lug around, and she'll carry it off for them in the bargain. All of it amounts to a range of highly valuable services in a place where resources can be scarce, and everyone's always more or less on the lookout for spare parts for one reason or another.

Sulaco's origin story is largely unknown. Rumour's got it that she is the product of a project some Light and Lightning eggheads put together way up north somewhere. Most are like to lay the blame at the feet of the only two questionably ethical organisations anyone's ever heard of: the Descanso Enclave in the Expanse, and the Parhelion Institute in the Ruins. Of course, all unsubstantiated speculation is just that: any evidence of Sulaco's origins and or any role Descanso and or Parhelion played in it has long since been shredded, burned, shredded some more, burned again for good measure, and the ashes of it sealed away in some vault of unknown location to boot. No one seems to much mind (aside from the professional gristers who mourn the loss of some good gossip material) on account of how neat the niche Sulaco's carved out for herself fits into the County way of life.

IMPRESSIONS
The paint job is eerily good, good enough to look like real skin -- except where it's scratched and peeling, flaking off like metallic dandruff where cloth and leather from her clothes rubs too much. Underneath it's metallic, solid. Cold but for when the refracted sunlight through the miasma hits it. She's scrubbed her antimicrobial coating off and coaxed some fungal friends into staying on as her concession to the organic. The air around her is heavy with the smell of grease and coolant.

LEGEND
The Gilded Constructs were the result of Project Pneuma, a joint effort between the Descanso Enclave of the Shifting Expanse and the Parhelion Institute of the Sunbeam Ruins to create fully autonomous synthetic dragonoids. The project was alarmingly successful, resulting in a number of Constructs who were, with a little cosmetic tweaking, indistinguishable from their organic counterparts. The project was highly taboo and hotly contested by both groups from day one. Descanso valued the Constructs for their capacity to augment scientific exploration, while Parhelion focused on their martial applications. Both groups wrestled with the issue of creating even synthetic life, to say nothing of powering it with energy cores based on Pillar Shards. Ultimately these issues proved irreconcilable, and both groups agreed to terminate both the project and its creations. Among the oldest and most functional Constructs was Sulaco, first to achieve self-awareness. When she learned that the Constructs were to be terminated along with the project that built them, she fled with fellow Construct and friend, the then-unfinished Scopuli. It is unknown if other Constructs escaped termination, or if Sulaco and Scopuli are all that remain.
RELATIONSHIPS
SCOPULI is Sulaco's husband and all-around helper. Sulaco can be a bit light on self-expression, but anyone with a visual cortex can see Sulaco's optics brighten right up the minute Scopuli comes into view.
JONESY is an all-seeing-eye-cat, a specially-bred nekomata type which combines clairvoyant capabilities with the natural charm and social grace of a regular housecat. The result is generally that, if Scopuli bites his tongue on saying something especially cutting to a customer, Jonesy will at once say it in a small voice that does not sound dissimilar from an evil wind blowing through ill-tempered marsh reeds. Elsewise, Jonesy keeps a literal eye out for thieves and con artists sniffing around Aftersought and occasionally dispenses harsh but ultimately useful business advice to her owners.
