B I O G R A P H Y
The loss of their brother -though they were, and are, both proud of him- hit Mio and Mei hard. Their parents worried about their hatchlings for a long time after their brother left, concerned about how different the two had become. While Mei had once been a loud, exuberant hatchling, he now was far more withdrawn. He still smiled and played, and seemed to be happy, but the wild, carefree energy he used to have towards the world seemed to be gone from him. Eventually, his parents realized that Mei had simply grown into a new dragon, one who was a little less willing to put his heart out to the world than before. The only dragon Mei seemed completely at ease with was Mio, and his time with his brother was a precious relief from his otherwise guarded existence. Though they are very different personalities, both Mei and Mio are cautions in relationships now. They tend to form new relationships slowly, fearing that they will be hurt again if they give the most vulnerable parts of themselves away again. They both tend to keep to themselves, and they are grateful that first Lochlani and now Solas allowed them to handle jobs that kept them in contact with the clan, but always with the option to pull away when they need to. Neither dragon is quite ready to take a mate yet, although as they are getting older, the female dragons have begun to plot how to bring these two quiet boys out of their shells and back into the world at large. |

His family worried, but they didn’t know how to help him. Mio spent as much time as he could with Mei, trying to draw him back into the clan and their family the only way he knew how. Mei let him, humored his attempts to rebuild their friendship, but both dragons knew it was a farce, just a façade of what their relationship had once been. Mio fought to hang onto his brother, only to feel him slip further and further away. When the clan moved to the Sunbeam Ruins, Mei’s family saw an opportunity. Mei didn’t want to leave his new-found friends, but his ties to his family ran deeper than even he realized. His parents and his brother insisted that he join them, left no room for argument. Solas, recognizing his first hurdle as leader, jumped in to encourage the young dragon. Mei still wavered. His ties to his family were strong, but the lure of the beast clans’ attention was addictive. In the end, it took a betrayal for him to realize where his loyalties lay. On a hunting trip, members of the beast clans that he had been spending so much time with ambushed him, using their knowledge of his strengths and weaknesses in a fight, and when he would be alone, to take down the powerful imperial. It took everything Mei had to break free and escape to the skies and safety. Everything Mei thought he knew suddenly collapsed around his ears, and he fell back onto the things that he thought he had moved on from. He rebuilt himself on the old foundations, his relationship with his family, his brother and his clan. But he is still deeply, deeply hurt. Wounds that no one can see cut deeper than the cuts and bruises from the attack, and it will take Mei many years to find himself again. But his family rallies around him daily, helping to share the burden, so that Mei is never alone in his struggle. |
