Kou

Name meaning: In Japanese kanji, the name Kou (コウ) is a homophone for "benefit/result".

Kou came from the Driftwood Drag of the Tangled Wood. Much older than she seems.

Kou first encountered Masuya in the Driftwood Drag when she was being attacked by a group of dragons she had managed to anger. They were threatening to damage her wings as retribution, but Masuya charged over and put himself between Kou and the rest of the group, claiming that he wouldn't let them touch her. The group hesitated, but this Guardian looked serious, so they didn't want to get into anything with him and they reluctantly left the two alone.

Kou was visibly ruffled but still tried to play it off cool: "Thanks, I guess, but I could have totally handled myself no problem, you know." It seemed clear that Masuya didn't believe her, but he nodded anyway to be polite and then proceeded to follow Kou when she tried to leave. So, Kou kind of lets him tag along because this big guy seems easy enough to get along with and it could be nice having him around in case something like that happens again.

Kou had been planning to leave the Driftwood Drag anyway, but she figured that the time couldn't be better now that she had a Guardian to travel with. She'd be safer that way, after all. As she and Masuya got to know each other, Masuya confided in her his desire to change his appearance, since he had always felt like he stood out too much being covered in splotches. Kou agreed that it did make him easier to spot, so she decided to help him, since she knew about powerful magic that could grant him his wish. Thus, they started on a journey together.

While they were on their mission to track down that magic for Masuya, Kou decided to take advantage of it herself and use it to make her appear younger (or to make others believe she's younger than she is) because she figured it would help her get away with some of the sh*t she pulls. After all, if other dragons think she is at least a good few months younger than she actually is currently, she can sneak into more places without much suspicion and they'll just chalk up her behavior to inexperience and shrug it off with a warning.
