Baenre
Queen’s main consort Coliseum trainer and alchemist
Hatched and raised in the Scarred Wasteland, Baenre was the sort of simple dragon who enjoyed being simple. He didn't pay very much attention to how to do much of anything- except hunt, since he liked meat- until he met Selkynn as she was trying her best to spin a sap nest. The branch she was working on broke, nearly dumping her to the ground. Baenre, however, made sure that he was in the way of her fall. Carrying her along atop his head, he successfully scavenged through the wasteland for the first time in his life, dragging together sufficient bones to create a cave-like lair with them. Selkynn chatted merrily with him as he worked, and within hours of their first meeting, the two were an item. Baenre realized that he would have to have ambitions, and actual goals.
The first thing Baenre did with this realization was to take it down to the Trading Post, where he apprenticed himself to learn alchemy. At first, he was pretty awful at it, but he became better with practice. Comfortingly enough, Selkynn was always satisfied with him simply coming back in one piece, despite whether his experiments had been successful or not. After he and Selkynn had managed to have their first pair of hatchlings, Baenre also decided to begin actually training for the Coliseum. He is a slow mover, but he hits rather hard, a trait for which his first son, the now exalted Antozshe, also became known. Baenre's work at the cauldron somehow bled into his training in the Coliseum- literally. His scratches turned an inexplicable green, and he has multiple burn-or-slash wounds (no one can determine which type they are) that absolutely refuse to heal. Selkynn was upset with this at first, but quickly learned that the wounds weren't mortal. She and Baenre now have a ritual of applying balm and bandaging between them that seems oddly natural. Baenre's neighbors- mostly his extended family- are a great deal less than thrilled with his choice of mate. Fae are tiny, and hardly any use in what his family considers a good fight. Selkynn was also raised in a matriarchal society, and immediately took over the lair that, according to Baenre's family, should really be his. Baenre himself has no problem with who is in charge and who is not. In his opinion, the Plaguebringer is the one who is truly in charge, and so long as she approves of his clan, no one else is worth listening to. Quote:
Adaptability - You have three choices when faced with overwhelming force: oppose it, and be broken; flow with it, and be lost; or outlast it, and survive.
