D espite hailing from the border between the Starfall Isles and the Scarred Wasteland, Selkynn was considered abnormal by the rest of her Fae neighbors because unlike most of them, she was able to effectively communicate with Mirror dragons. Being very self-confident and secure, she didn't have much trouble ignoring the others' teasing, but it did get tiresome after a while.

W hen she was grown and strong enough to make a lair of her own, she decided to leave the annoyance of those living in the Starfall Isles completely for the comparative comfort of the Wandering Contagion. She didn't think to bring tree sap with her, and so had to fly around the area for some time before she was able to find a tree that was not quite as dead as the others, from which she could collect at least enough sap to make a small nest. While she was working, a young male Mirror walked up, and watched her attempt to attach her construction to the tree. Hours of work resulted in failure when the branch she was working on broke, sending her tumbling toward the ground. Next thing she knew, however, she was smack on top of the male Mirror's head. That Mirror was Baenre. Having been captivated by her beauty and determination almost at first sight, Baenre knew that she was the mate for him, and gladly spent the next few hours dragging together sufficient bones to make a sort of cave out of them. Selkynn was grateful, but unsure of where to attach a sap nest. Baenre, for his part, noted that if she simply stayed on top of his head, she wouldn't need a nest at all.

O f course, Selkynn hasn't exactly simply stayed on top of Baenre's head. She now runs a shockingly well-protected and organized lair as its queen, administrating its treasure, food, resources, correspondence, and standing in the neighborhood. She is authoritative, but does not simply pass off her responsibilities to others. She also doesn’t nag; if someone refuses to do something that needs to be done, she will either simply ask someone else, or do it herself.
